The movies tell the story of Jigsaw, a criminal psycho, who does not just kill his victims, but finds ways to either let them kill themselves or kill others.

Saw begins when 2 men, Adam Faulkner, and surgeon Dr. Lawrence Gordon wake up in a horrible bathroom. Both are chained on the opposite side, each having a tape. A corpse lies in the middle of the room with a tape recorder in his hands.
Gordon's tape tells him to kill Adam before 6 o'clock or his wife and daughter would die. The tape also directs the 2 men to 2 saws, which can't be used on their chains.
Gordon realizes they are the victim of Jigsaw, a serial killer and the saws are supposed to be used on their legs, not their chains.

The movie continues with more flashbacks of past victims and parts of the two mens lives.

Jigsaw is back. And more people will suffer.

Detective Eric Matthews is investigating a crime scene, it's soon obvious this was the latest victim of Jigsaw, the serial killer who like to play games with his victims.
The bigger picture soon reveals 8 people being trapped in a shelter filled with booby traps. They have to find a way out, die trying or die from the lethal nerve gas they breath over time.

Jigsaw has an apprantice, Amanda. However, Jigsaw is on the edge of death, a tumor is pulling him over that edge, and Amanda abducted Dr. Lynn Denlon to save her master. Amanda attached explosives to Dr. Lynn Denlon's neck that will explode when Jigsaw dies.
Another victim, Jeff, must race against time to complete his deadly task. But what both don't know is that Amanda and Jigsaw have a much bigger plan for the both of them...

It's all over ...
Both Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead.

But Jigsaw plays from his grave. His last puzzle might be the most difficult one. The commander of the swat team has only 90 minutes to solve one of Jigsaws puzzles to make it out alive, if he fails, his old friend will die too.
All the while, 2 veteran FBI detectives try to solve another puzzle with fearsome traps and potential death.

There's not much known about the plot, but some rumors trickled through.

Patrick Melton revealed that Saw V will explain what happened to Corbett, the daughter of Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart, following the conclusion of Saw III that left her in danger.
An interview with Tobin Bell revealed that the origins of Billy the puppet and his red tricycle would be further explained after having the story's roots planted in Saw IV. Also, in an interview on June 13, 2007, Tobin Bell teased that he would not be surprised if the character of Cecil made a reappearance, and that the pieces of flesh taken from the victims in the form of a jigsaw puzzle might be explained. {source: Wikipedia}
