The Saxophone Love The Sound

Ranked #1,640 in Music, #44,786 overall

many people wish they could play the saxophone, are you one of them?

Charlie Parker is quoted as saying ""You've got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail."

I think these are very wise words for any aspiring musician. Except for the rare few anyone who wants to learn an instrument has to become proficient in technique before they are really able to have the freedom to express their musicality. It is on that journey that many learners give up.

The saxophone evokes powerful romantic associations. There is something highly appealing about the sound of a saxophone and the mystery of the saxophonist. As the words from the musical Miss Saigon say "the song played on a solo saxophone a crazy sound,a lonely sound, a cry that tells us love goes on and on, played on a solo saxophone, it's telling me, to hold you tight and dance like it's the last night of the world."

Saxophones are cool, saxophones are stylish. They use a single reed like a clarinet and the instrument was invented in 1841 in Belgium by Adolphe Sax. They come in a range of sizes related to key pitch. The Sopranini is small and looks more like a clarinet than the traditional curvy saxophone, on the other hand the contra bass is huge making an adult look like a small child when holding it! The most familiar versions are the tenor an alto saxes, and whilst they are most frequently made of brass, there are plastic and even bamboo models.
