Well met! This lens is dedicated to the science of heraldry as practiced in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism. However, some material here deals with heraldry in general, so stick around even if you're not in the SCA -- you might find something useful!

The basics

SCA Heraldry Site
The official SCA heraldry page, maintained by the office of Laurel Sovereign of Arms. Includes links to policies, precedents, and the all-important Rules for Submission.
Heraldica
An excellent general heraldry reference. Not SCA-specific.
The Academy of Saint Gabriel
A volunteer organization devoted to heraldic research for the SCA and similar groups. Site provides lots of in-depth information, particularly on naming practices in various countries. The Academy will also answer individual queries (though it may take quite a while).

Heraldry books

The essential reference for SCA heraldry is the Pictorial Dictionary of Heraldry as used in the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is unfortunately unavailable from Amazon but may be ordered from Free Trumpet Press West. However, Amazon does stock other heraldry books, some of which are listed here.

Simple Heraldry

An entertaining, informative introduction to the basic principles of heraldry. The authors were a herald and an artist from the Scottish College of Arms, and present their material beautifully and with many entertaining illustrations.
