Scariest Horror Video Games of All Time

Silent hill is known for it's creepy plot and scary minion characters. Second edition of this game is more scary than the earlier released game. Some gamers feel that it's more of psychological thriller but there are some scenes in it which are more of scary and suits in horror category. You'll get drawn into the story plot and will realize that there's much more thrill than what you experienced in the first edition of this game.

ED:SR is the most scary psychological thriller in my opinion. It may not be that scary for few people but i find it enough chilled with horror moments in it. You'll find that this game is programmed to connect you with the story plot in this movie then it tries to disconnect you from the game with various ways with which you can get scared while playing the game. More enemies you defeat in this game will increase the sanity meter and in turn increases the scary part in the game.

Resident evil series was first released on play-station console and later revived on PC & other consoles. It falls into survival horror category and it's difficulty is progressive with every level. No matter which edition of the game you play there is thrilling experience in every edition and you'll get thrilled while making it to next save point. Recent release of the game is more of action oriented than survival horror style. If you want to experience the thrill of the resident evil then you should get a copy of earlier versions.

Alone in the dark has more puzzles and scary enemies than any other game in my opinion. You'll also find the camera angles in the game are fixed and forced you to think in flow of the game. Puzzles are the important part of the game, paranormal puzzles makes you stick with the game for hours. Because of it's object puzzles & polygonal game-play you'll find yourselves into the third person survival horror game.

FEAR is excellent survival FPS game. FEAR is Japanese horror story-line packed with fast-paced FPS gaming. Playing defensively will not let you survive much longer in this game. You'll find that in this game to survive you've to not only fight with the various characters but also with the hallucinations that you get because of the psychic girl. If you're into fast-pace FPS game then you should try FEAR- it has horror and FPS that will hold you in chair for hours of game-play.

Dead Space is survival horror game with more stress on action aspect of the game. Story is based on the alien infection spread on the mining ship from where you have to navigate your way to the end of the game. Enemies are mutated bodies of the humans born of alien infection, which makes it hard to kill. What makes the game more scary is that there is no safe location and you can get attacked from the any part of the game. You'll have to struggle a lot while fighting with enemies and have to hit on their weak spot to end the slaughter.

Siren is Japanese survival horror game first released in 2003. Second release of the game was in 2008 named as "siren : blood curse". Story is about the cult who produced blood thirsty smart zombies in the little isolated village in the mountains. You'll find a lot of scary and difficult to kill enemies in this game. Unlike American survival horror games you'll spot the different in culture and the story of this game.

There are some excellent survival horror games released during 2011. If you like scary games then do check out some of these games and I'm sure that you'll enjoy it for sure. Some games have a rating on them so it is suggested that you should check them before buying. Many games were released in this genre but I'm only listing the worthy ones that you should buy and play at home.

Heavy Rain : This game scores in almost everything - music, graphics, story and overall gameplay. If you like psychological aspect in horror games, then this is the game for you. Not too scary but keeps you hooked till the end.

Condemned: Criminal Origins : Psychological with few gory bits in it. It has a nice story plot but overall less scary. It does have some deep psychological impact on gamer. I like such type of games and I recommend this to those who prefer more of psychological plot in survival horror.

Cryostasis - Sleep of Reason It has one of the best psychological plot and not to forget excellent survival horror experience. You'll find a lot of things in this game other than story plot and graphics. Music is good too.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent : If you like surprise attacks, try and play this game in the dark. Oh this game will force you to play it in dark. It has an excellent story and background music. I can't comment much about psychological plot of this game. You have to check it out yourself to avoid the spoiler.

Fatal Frame 4: Mask of Lunar Eclipse : New game in the fatal frame series has everything that we used to enjoy from the previous games. It has an excellent atmosphere and music. You'll get hooked to this game and will enjoy playing it in the dark.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth : I didn't find this game any scary but it offers you excellent survival horror game-play. You'll find extreme psychological stuff in it and it'll be hard for you to get it out sometimes. In any case, let me not spoil the fun. Check it out yourself.

Alien vs Predator

If you like survival horror FPS games then you should try alien vs predator. They also have multi-player version of this game. There are top three editions of this game after which they introduced the multi-player editions in the series.

Man Hunt

You may not find it the best survival horror in it. But this game has it's scary moments which you will discover as you play the game. There are two editions of this game and both of these editions have the scary moments which makes it worth to call scary video game.

The Suffering

This game from midway games is scary enough to be listed in the top scary video games. You'll find some of the unusual monsters. Most of the story plot makes it look more of psychological thriller game as the gameplay changes as per the action performed by you in the game.

Bio-Shock

There are two editions of this game and both have it's scary moments. It's also another psychological survival FPS game. You'll not get much scared with this game but it has enough thrills to keep you engaged in the game.

Clock Tower

Clock tower's first installment is point-n-click survival horror game. If you're into 3D games then you may or may not like this game.
