Are the Schecter C1 Hellraiser and the Schecter C1 Hellraiser FR the Best Metal Electric Guitars Around?

Are you looking for a true metal guitar? then probably you want EMG pickups. The Schecter Hellraiser C-1 is one of the most popular EMG equipped guitars.

But is all the hype true?

Construction and Finish

The Schecter Hellraiser C-1 comes in two flavors: the fixed bridge and the floyd rose equipped. Other than these features the guitars are exactly the same. Which one is better for you depends on your personal style. If you are more of a lead player the Schecter Hellraiser FR might be better.

In my opinion every time you take a chunk of wood from the bridge to mount such a big piece of metal you are sacrificing some of the sound quality. That's why I prefer the fixed bridge, not only because I think it sounds thicker but for down-tuning is a lot easier.

Both models come in 3 finishes, the all black, all white and the quilted cherry. Note that the quilted cherry features a maple top while the others are all mahogany. I've always found interesting how Schecter doesn't charge more for the maple top like Epiphone does.

Excellent Pickups By EMG

The pickups on the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 are the EMG 81 and an 85. If you've been listening to heavy metal chances are you've heard these pickups. Slayer, Metallica, Zack Wylde, Deftones, Sepultura, Rammstein, Arch Enemy, In Flames, I could go on for a while.

I would recommend that as good as they are you be careful choosing a guitar with active pickups. They are not for everyone and in inexperienced hands they can make a lot of awful noise.

One of The Best Necks at This Price Range

The neck of Schecter guitars has always been one of my favorites. The fretwork is very clean. I've never found a sharp edge on a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 and I've played too many.

This guitar has the dimensions of a Strat but the construction of a Les Paul. There is something in the dimensions of a fender neck that is a lot easier to experience than to explain. It's difficult to predict how it will affect you. Look what happened to Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton when they switched.

This guitar features original Grover tuners and in the FR model a locking nut.

Conclusion

The Schecter Hellraiser C-1 in my book is 5 out 5. And I'm not saying it because it's the one I happened to like this month or I just came from GC and an intoxicated salesman brainwashed me.

My opinion comes after many years of opening 100's of boxes, setting up and maintaining these guitars. I've developed many relationships with customers that bought the Schecter Hellraiser C1.

That's why I have absolutely no problem telling you that if you want a killer metal guitar the Schecter Hellraiser C1 is one of the best options.

The Scheter Hellraiser FR

Remember, the Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR is the same guitar but features a floyd rose floating bridge. For more adventurous players that are not afraid of practicing. There is also a 7 string model in case you want to get really down and dirty.
