An influential and revolutionary author
I picked up a book by Cunningham out of curiosity and found he had the ability to express his perspective and experience in a clear and forthright way on subjects which once brought scorn, ridicule and contempt.
It was all very simple. He believed that everyone's religion was deeply personal and invariably individual.
Scott Cunningham is now recognised as one of the most influential and revolutionary authors in the field of natural magic.
Cunningham's books are a constant delight
But not for traditionalists
Accusations of 'insipid' have come from deeply serious practitioners who abhor Cunningham's steps in making the Craft respectable, but I love his books. I appreciate the clear and direct writing style and his exhortation to "employ whatever works in religious, spiritual, and magickal endeavours".
I enjoy the freedom of expression in present day spirituality and most of all, I delight in the little rituals of each day, of greeting the morning star, of holding my arms up to the rising sun and pausing for five minutes contemplation of the clear and beautiful Moon.
This isn't Wicca, this is relishing the world. Cunningham's books, with their reverence for Nature and wealth of folkloric detail and specific ritual, have been a constant delight to me.
I admire his simplicity of spiritual vision.
An Introduction
It was through Cunningham that I learned about this modern style of nature religion. I was taught all through my schooldays by Catholic nuns who, while otherwise excellent in their coverage of the classicist curriculum, neglected to include witchcraft in the studies of comparative religion. Witches were confined to fairy tales of the grim Germanic variety.

When I picked up The Truth about Witchcraft Today, originally a booklet, I discovered that the practice of modern witchcraft was based on respect for nature amd is indeed non-profit and non-political. A refreshing change.
Grab this book for an easy to read explanation of Wicca. It's short, to the point and, now in mass paperback, cheap.
There are many varying authors on Wicca and the Neo-Pagan reconstruction movements. Quite often they wrote of subjects which brought scorn, ridicule and harassment from a world blinded by centuries of fear, and misconception.
Scott Cunningham's ability to express his perspective and experience clearly has helped many find and understand the true meaning of walking this path

Cunningham's books on Wicca are highly popular, he is one of the best-read Wiccan authors of his time and the sales of Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner have reached over 500,000 copies.I bought this more from curiosity than anything else, and was happily surprised to find an excellent resource manual for spiritual development.
Cunningham knew his herbs too. You can easily see why Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs is a best seller.
Another book on the same green subject is Magical Herbalism: The Secret Craft of the Wise.
I have two all-time favourites, books which I frequently use both professionally and personally, The Magical Household and Wicca in the Kitchen.

I have two alltime favourites, One book you don't hear much about is Magical Household. Like all of Cunningham's books it's easy to understand, helpful, creative, basic yet founded on deeper knowledge, full of fascinating lore, folk magic and what we now recognise as the basis of Feng Shui.

My second favourite is Wicca Kitchen, indispensable in my house . Just take a look at these clear instructions on how to best select food for its magical properties and consuming it with a specific goal in mind.
I never expect magic, just fabulous food full of energy, in fact I end up with real kitchen magic from the author's own favourite recipes.

- I don't know how I missed this treasure.I recommend Cunningham to anyone starting out on the Wiccan path. I would add this quote:
"The magic begins in you. Feel your own energy, and realize that similar energy exists within the Earth, stones, plants, water, wind, fire, colors, and animals."
I also recommend the book,
Whispers of the Moon: The Life and Work of Scott Cunningham by two of his best friends.

- I've never heard the term "Wicca" (or this author) before in my life until visiting this lens. Being the spiritual though not traditionally religious person that I am, this might be something that interests me. I'll have to learn more about it.

- A good introduction to Cunningham. I'm a Wiccan myself and its nice to see people who appreciate the religion for what it is, even if its not their own. Nice work.
