PerthA little bit about Perth...

Perth is a town in central Scotland. It sits on the banks of the River Tay and is the historic county town of Perthshire. The town is also known as 'The Fair City' after the story 'Fair Maid of Perth' was published by Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott in 1828. Perth was once a major 'City' and 'Royal Burgh' in Scotland. Scone Abbey, home to the Stone of Destiny where the Kings of Scots were officially crowned, was situated in Perth. Today, Perth is a popular retail hub for the surrounding area with a shopping centre and many independent and specialist stores. It is also a popular place for tourists due to its place in Scottish history.

Place to stay...

One of the most interesting places to stay in Perth has to be the Ramada Perth hotel. The hotel has been converted from a 15th century watermill and still retains many of the watermill's features, including the original water wheel. It is fully functional and you can watch water pass through it from the reception area, the Lounge Bar and in the hotel gardens which are surrounded by spectacular Highland scenery.

Local Attractions...

Scone Palace

Although the present day Scone Palace is only 200 years old, it has been built on the site where the historical, medieval abbey and palace that was used to crown Scotland's kings once stood. A replica of the Stone of Destiny used at the crowning is on view at the palace.

Balhousie Castle

Balhousie Castle dates back to the 15th century and is the regimental headquarters of the Black Watch. The castle also contains artefacts, uniforms, weapons and medals from the famous unit's history.

Perth Museum and Art Gallery

The building itself was built in 1824 and is one of the UK's oldest museums with over 8000 pieces of art in its art collection.
