Fantasy Stories With A Contemporary Twist

I write, not just because I like to -- even though I do -- but because I have to. Everything and anything (except poetry) ... from short stories to a novel. I've written technical articles and have tried my hand at writing pieces aimed at the programming community.

Usually, however, I write fantasy. Fantasy and science fiction.

The two types of fiction I write are fantasy and science fiction. And horror.

The THREE types of fiction I write are fantasy, science fiction, and horror. And bits influenced heavily by British comedy.

I try to read as much as I can, but time is almost always limited by life and family. When given the time, though, I always prefer to write over read and to read over watching a movie. I frequent several author resource sites and pass on anything I find valuable.

I'm the author of...

The Path Into Darkness is an urban fantasy story involving magic, family secrets, and an ancestral curse. It is the first book in the Shadow World series.

There are excerpts available for your perusal and (hopefully) enjoyment.

I was involved in National Novel Writing Month 2008. I fell behind quota, mostly because I changed stories around November 10th.

I've also written some short stories that I put up on Associated Content so they'd have a home. They're very short stories, technically referred to as Flash Fiction.

You can grab it on Amazon.com if you'd like (and I'd really like it if you did, too!) There's also an e-book version of it available.

Thoughts of a recovering programmer...

This is my home page, and where I loiter the most. Well, here and some forums such as AbsoluteWrite.com (although I'm more of a lurker there lately).

My writing process

There are basically two things I have to do before I can start typing away frantically at the keyboard. First, I absolutely need to have a cup of fresh, hot coffee. Since I write in the mornings, this is a requirement for practical reasons.

Secondly, I play a few warm-up exercises on my guitar. Just some scales, a few chord progressions, or a bluesy shuffle. It's not directly related to writing, for sure, but it does get my creative juices flowing. I just feel much more energetic and enthused after a little guitar work.

Lately, I've been playing more hard rock (AC/DC) and metal (Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden) as my warm-ups. Wow ... the energy level's a lot higher after you play through a verse and chorus of Creeping Death, compared to playing through a round of Hoochie Coochie Man.

Acknowledgements

I got interested in writing after spending my summers traveling cross country with my family. The trip from New Jersey to Wyoming takes a while, and gave me more than enough time to read. And read. And then to read some more.

You really can't help but start to write stuff after you've digested several good books over a short span.

I chuckled when you were listing what genres you write in your intro--do I see a little Python humor there? :) Great lens, and good look with NaNo!
