Everything Scrabble!

The Scrabble lover's complete resource for all things Scrabble — Scrabble games, Scrabble PC games, Scrabble games online, as well as some Scrabble history and trivia. Plus, other Scrabble-related games. All here for the word lovers out there.

Scrabble History

Alfred Butts invented Scrabble — first calling it Lexiko, then Criss-Cross Words. Later, it was renamed "Scrabble" — meaning "to grope frantically." The first production process turned out 12 games an hour. The history is an interesting one; I won't re-write it here, I'll just redirect you to an article on the history of Scrabble (couple of retro pix as well) from the National Scrabble Association. While you're there, you can get the Scrabble Word of the Day. FYI: The NSA is looking to add your Scrabble group, if you have one, to a huge directory of Casual Clubs — submit your group to the directory (costs nothing), and you're provided with all kinds of help from the experts!

I used to play Scrabble a lot when I was growing up, back in the days that we used to play board games. I loved it, because it's challenging, and you never know what words are going to appear. The game is always different.

You simply can't beat a good game of Scrabble. Mind you, Taboo sounds like fun too!

I love to play Scrabble. Every time I go visit Mom, we play Scrabble. She plays all by herself if no one is around. It is a great game to help keep the brain sharp. Oh, now I just got lonesome for home and Mom, must go visit and play a few games.

I just stopped by to wish you, and those who surround you with love, a very merry holiday season. Many blessings in the New Year. My sister and I have been battling in Scrabble since we were kids......her top is two seven letter words back to back - it was her first and second plays - unbelievable but true. (Rotten sister)

Scrabble is the best word game ever invented. I run an English school in Japan and use it as a teaching aid. I let my students draw ten tiles at a time because it gives them a better chance of forming a more and longer words--and besides, English is not their native language.

Yep -- would you guess it? We are Scrabble fans! Only have a couple of board games that are go-to's for us. Used to be into playing cards, but prefer Scrabble -- it's great exercise for our brains. ;)

Pretty neat and unusual topic. Scrabble is certainly one of the classic board games.
