Here are some of things I have done
Ok so what got me started making Scrabble Crafts? Well for one I am a crafter and second every year at Christmas in my family to save money on gift buying for the adults we do a Craft Gift Exchange. So us girls have to craft something cool to exchange with each other - just makes it more fun and having those hand made items is really neat.Ok so anyway, my in laws are very into Scrabble. So I decided to create something using Scrabble Letter Tiles, I did some research on the internet to get some ideas. I found some old Scrabble games at the local thrift stores and even ordered some extra tiles from Ebay.
For my mother in law I did a craft similar to a Family Tree (See Below). I also made Last Name ornaments. (See Below) and Word Magnets (see Below)
Scrabble Family Tree Craft - How to
So here is the one I had made for my Mother in Law. I took an old Scrabble Board and made sure I had enough Letter Tiles to do put in all the names in the family. Then what I did is start it off by placing "Family" on the top and building off from there placing the names of her children and grandchildren. I also added on some key words like; Mom, Nana, Love etc..
It is important when doing this to lay it all out before gluing and it may take some time to get it all on - mine did, just keep working at it. When you have it the way you like then glue the tiles on the board using a Hot Glue gun. Be careful to not put too much glue on that it will ooze out the sides. I also then added a Tile Holder to the bottom with the word "Bonds" - meaning like family bonds and pushed 2 tiles to the side just for fun. All of that was glued in place as well.
I then added on a picture hanger on the back and it was complete. This now hangs in her living room - originally I though she would put it in the Rec room, but she loved it too much and it is now a conversational piece for her guests.
You can really do this anyway you like - using any words you like and it is fun and it really looks cool hanging on the wall.
Scrabble Craft Tips
- Look for old games in local Thrifts stores - or friends and neighbors who no longer use their games. Ebay is the best resource to tiles. Freecycle and Craigslist is also another good source.
- Use an Antique Board for a different look
- Scrabble Letter Tiles come in different wood finishes - Dark, Maroon and Light woods
- Make sure your tiles all match in color and be sure you have enough letters
FYI - What letters and how many of each come in one Basic Scrabble Game

Scrabble Letter Tile Magnet Words - How to

These are so much fun and everyone loves these. I consign these in local stores with my other crafts and they sell like hot cakes. There are many ways to do these, but this is what I do. I make fun words like: Diet, Coffee, Tea, Beer, Moody, Sew, Quilt, Love etc.. I then use a hot glue gun and glue the letter tiles on to a thin craft stick (gives extra support) cut to the length of the word. I then use The Adhesive Magnetic Strips cut to size - I will also use the hot glue on the adhesive back to have it hold better and then glue it to the craft stick. And there you have it - some fun for the Fridge, Lockers and where ever else you can stick up a magnet.
For my holiday craft exchange I made words that had to do with who I was giving it too - funny ones.
You can also just put magnets on the individual letter tiles and people can make their own words too.

Scrabble Ornaments/Hangers - How To

Now these are bit more work to do and I cannot take all the credit - my husband had to do the drilling (that is his department).
Now you can make any word obviously you want to, but I made the last name of the family I was giving it too.
You need a very thin drill bit for these and a vice to hold the tile. You need to drill a hole through the tile from the top - very carefully. Then when all done you string them like beads with other cool beads in between the letters with a wire (make sure to have the end ready with the bead and a knot so they will not fall off), make a loop on the top and then they are done and ready to hang.
They look cool on the tree or just hanging somewhere in the house.

Yes, Scrabble rocks, used to play it with my grandpa all the time. I like to practice on the download version which has an official dictionary and a "high scoring word" feature where you can see the highest score possible - great way to learn!
