So Many To Choose From...Where Do You Start?!!!

During the four years that I have been teaching scrapbooking I have found that the choice of what book to buy can be hard for some people - particularly for beginners! Here I will introduce you to the books I recommend and use myself.

Becky Higgins Sketch Books

The Best of Becky Higgins' Sketches

One of the best tools a scrapbooker can have is a book of sketches. The hard work has been done for you in these books! When you sit down to do your layout you simply flick through the book until you find a sketch of a page that will suit your photos and off you go! It is like a map of where to place the photos and title. Then you can add your embellishments wherever you like to jazz the page up.

One of the best known scrapbookers for this type of book is Becky Higgins. I have been using her sketches ever since I started scrapbooking over six years ago. She has written a couple of books and is well published in Creating Keepsakes magazine.

Becky Fleck's Page Maps Book

Scrapbook Page Maps: Sketches For Creative Layouts

Another great book for sketches is Becky Fleck's Page Maps. Becky's maps are very popular and she also has her own website, Page Maps .

Ali Edwards Books

Scrapbooking with Design Principles

A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking

Most scrapbookers have heard of Ali Edwards. She is a designer who loves scrapbooking and brings all of her design knowledge with her. Ali travels throughout the USA teaching at conventions and stores. She also has a very popular blog. I personally love Ali's style. It is clean and really focuses on the photos and the story. If you like layouts that aren't too fussy or overloaded with embellishments you will like Ali's style too.

Ali Edwards Scrapbooking with Patterned Paper

A Designer's Eye- scrapbooking with patterned paper

Ali's second book gives you lots of tips and ideas on how to use patterned papers on your layouts. Again, she presents her ideas from a designer's point of view. This is another favourite of mine because often I can struggle with not knowing which patterns are going to work together. She also shows you how to pick embellishments that will work with your paper rather than against it.

Ali Edwards Life Artist

Life Artist

Ali has a philosphy of "Embrace Imperfection" and this book is all about doing it your way rather than creating in a way that is not your own. This book really gets to the heart of scrapbooking - preserving those precious life moments and sharing your stories. Ali encourages you to let your personality shine through in your scrapbook layouts. And she gives you page after page of inspiration!
