How To Get Started With Scrapbooking
Whenever a big event happens in our lives, we grab a camera and take lots of pictures to put in our photo album. But there is a growing hobby that is being adopted by many more people every single day, and that hobby is scrapbooking. This hobby is doing away with the process of filing photographs away in an album, and taking them to a whole new level by adding extra elements to them to ensure that the memories are kept in much sharper focus. The great thing about scrapbooking is that it enables you to create themed books that relate to different occasions. You could do a book dedicated to a friend's wedding and give it to the bride and groom as a wedding gift. Another idea is to make one for your parents, showing them a range of photos from when you and your siblings were growing up. This would also make an ideal gift for Christmas or a birthday.
The possibilities with scrapbooking are endless - in essence they are limited only by your imagination.
Using Different Materials To Create Different Effects
Sometimes it's good to create a certain mood when you are displaying your photos in a scrapbook. For example, photos that are taken at a certain time of year can be embellished as such. Seasonal pictures of your family opening their presents at Christmas can be surrounded by cut outs of trees, gifts and holly and ivy. You can also use stencilled lettering to add messages or notes to the pictures, as well as noting the date on which they were taken.
Scrapbooking allows you to add far more detail to your pictures than a standard photo album allows. You would often be restricted to writing the date on the back of the print, but with a scrapbook you don't have to do this. You can also include notes on who is in the picture and what was happening. Embellishments will add to the overall theme of the photos and can transform a simple set of pictures into something really special.
Stocking Up On Craft Items
As you begin to delve deeper into the art of scrapbooking, you will start to build a collection of papers, rubber stamps, lettering, stickers, stencils and much more that you can use when adding a page to an existing scrapbook, or creating a completely new one. If you are new to the hobby of scrapbooking it can be worthwhile to buy a few ready-made kits, which usually include a variety of materials that adhere to a specific theme.
You can personalise your scrapbooks even more by including items other than photos in them. For example, if you want to create a scrapbook devoted to your summer holiday, be sure to keep anything related to it, such as brochures, tickets, and any other paperwork that could be used when you eventually make the scrapbook itself. If you go skiing you could keep the cable car ticket to tuck halfway underneath a picture of you on the cable car itself. This all adds further depth to your scrapbook and makes it more of a memory book than if you included nothing but the actual photos.
In short, scrapbooking makes more of our photos than an album would. The fact that we can add as much or as little to them as we wish makes them extremely versatile, and a great gift for someone else - either as a starter kit or completed by you as a memory of a specific occasion.
Finally, keep everything you can lay your hands on that you think might be good for a future page in your scrapbook. You never know when that bus ticket, cinema ticket or receipt for that romantic meal might find a place in your scrapbook.

Different Scrapbooking Tools You Need
Scrapbooking can be a very challenging task for the beginner. For one thing, you need creativity in order to create a beautiful work of art. You also need to think up a distinct theme which forms the backbone of the scrapbook. The items you put inside the scrapbook should also be arranged in such a manner that their significance is unmistakable. With all these complexities, many people would be hard-pressed to complete a scrapbook without the proper tools. So what tools would you actually need to put a scrapbook together?
1) Scissors - Everyone knows what scissors are, right? Well, here is a metaphor for the scissors in scrapbooking. Scissors are like bringers of order. Scissors shape the little bits of paper into forms that you can use in your scrapbook. This scrapbooking tool is very important in making pieces fit together. Some people may refuse to cut the pieces of paper, but only through this, can the scrapbook be completed.
In that sense, a pair of scissors can symbolize the truth. Why, you ask? Well, the truth hurts. But it has to hurt, doesn't it? It has to hurt if it is to set you free.
There are two distinctive types of scissors you can use as scrapbooking tools:
a) Conventional paper-cutting scissors - These scissors are made to cut and to cut straight. This is the type of scissors people encounter from the very beginning of their childhood. You need to be able to trust your scissors to cut straight, because it just looks ugly if you unintentionally use dull scissors and mess up the cut of the paper.
b) Crafting scissors - This type of scissors can be bought at different art supply shops. These scissors are distinctively shaped in order to produce different types of cuts. Using this scrapbooking tool can be a whole lot more convenient than trying to follow a pattern using straight-cutting scissors. You see, using conventional scissors can give you carpal tunnel because of the stress your fingers will be taking. And that's not good at all, is it?
2) Puncher - This nifty scrapbooking tool is used mainly to punch holes into paper. There are, once again, two types of punchers available out there:
a) Conventional - This type of puncher produces round holes. Funnily enough, this type of puncher was not designed as a scrapbooking tool, but as an office supply. For those of today's generation, files are known as the thing you keep documents in your computer. However, for other people, files consist of important papers and documents which are organized together. Punchers were used to put holes into those documents in order to accommodate a fastener.
However, punchers are now used today to make perfect circles on scrapbooking pages.
b) Shaped - This type of puncher, pretty much works in the same manner as the conventional puncher. However, the edges of the punching mechanism take different shapes in order to accommodate your crafting needs. This scrapbooking tool is used to make different shaped holes in the pages of the scrapbook.
3) Tweezers - Tweezers are often used as scrapbooking tools in order to enable the crafter to put in a design or to glue in a bit of paper neatly. You see, when making a scrapbook, you will be working with different materials together with a lot of glue. Because of this, there is a high risk of you smudging the different pictures of the scrapbook. Tweezers are excellent scrapbooking tools to maintain the cleanliness of your handiwork.
4) Computer - This can be an excellent scrapbooking tool because of the fact that it can do a variety of things. On the computer, you can do research on what scrapbooking theme to use. This means you are given more resources on the varieties of different themes and the ways you can incorporate them in your scrapbook. You can also use the computer to get more images to put in your scrapbook. By using the computer, you get all the advantage of modern technology and can therefore, make your scrapbook into anything you like.
Scrapbooking tools allow people to have an easier time crafting their handiwork. However, you should remember that sometimes. Mistakes actually make a scrapbook more personal. Mistakes show the human side of you. Like the memories you show on a scrapbook, the making of it should not necessarily be perfect, but it should be fun.

A Quick Checklist to Organizing Your Scrapbooking Supplies
With so many scrapbooking supplies on the market, it's easy to get overwhelmed. And if you're like most scrapbookers, organizing your supplies can be a bigger undertaking than scrapbooking your actual pages! But with our checklist for organizing your scrapbooking supplies, you'll quickly have your space organized and ready for creativity!Organizing Paper
The first step on your checklist to organizing your scrapbooking supplies is your paper. A popular way to sort paper is first by size, then by type (cardstock, patterned paper, vellum), then by color. Having your cardstock sorted by color will make it easy to find and keep it neat and organized. Organizing your patterned paper is a little bit different. Depending on what types of paper you have (and how much you have), you can sort patterned paper by themes, manufacturers, or the predominant color. Think about what kind of scrapbooking you do, and choose a sort that will work best for your needs. Put your organized paper into paper holders to keep it neat and flat. Another item on your checklist to organizing your scrapbooking supplies is to set up a spot for scraps. A small box or folder will work well; weed this out every month or so so that you still have usable scraps ready to go.
Organizing Embellishments
Next on our checklist to organize your scrapbooking supplies are embellishments. Embellishments are notoriously hard to keep up with, and there are many products on the market designed to help you keep them organized. First, you will want to sort your embellishments by type. Look at your embellishments and decide how broad you want your categories to be; how many embellishments you have should drive this decision. For example, if you have lots of brads, eyelets, and snaps, you might want to sort them separately; if you have just a few, you can put them together. Other categories to consider are: ribbons, fibers, tags, buttons, stickers, and rub-ons. Next on your checklist to organize your scrapbooking embellishment supplies is to decide what kind of containers they will fit best into. Smaller items (such as brads and eyelets) fit nicely into small plastic containers. Bigger items, such as flowers and ribbons, look beautiful in glass jars on your scrapbooking table. And I organize my stickers by theme in an expandable plastic divided file folder.
Organizing Tools
The last step on our checklist to organize your scrapbooking supplies are your tools. Think about the tools that you use most often, and keep those out and ready to go. For me, this includes my paper trimmer, adhesive tape runner, scissors, and hole puncher. For tools that you don't use as often, pretty baskets make easy and attractive storage options.

Scrapbooking Titles, Themes & Quotes Revealed
Are you ever stuck for ideas or titles to use in your scrapbooks?
Scrapbooking Quotes and the Power of WordsThere are those who say that a picture is worth a thousand words. However, humanity came up with words because of a very good reason. You see, pictures can be viewed from different angles and interpreted in different ways. However, words do the job of clearing up those interpretations and giving you the privilege of getting your message across.
Of course, words do get misinterpreted at times. However, you should bear in mind that words are the best tools for communicating your meaning. There are certain words that touch not only the mind, but also the heart. Words are actually meant not only to convey messages, but also to convey a person's emotions. They are used to let people know about the way we perceive things. After all, none of us can really claim to see things from another person's point of view, can we?
For all we know, our whole lives can be a big dream. Nothing could be real. Nothing really confirms that our lives are real. Any explanations, any theories, any evidence can just be a part of the unreality of life.
However, words somehow five us the assurance that other people do experience. Somehow, words anchor us to a place of stability, somewhere between unbelief and fanaticism. Words help us cling to our own understanding.
People do not share much emotion, but when they do, they use words. Sure, you can think of love and say that there are a number of easy ways to express love without resorting to words, yet ask yourself this: "When all those actions and gestures are done, how does it translate in your mind?"
Love is a word. However, that word holds more power than anything on earth. It is actually easy to ignore a certain feeling. However, once you give a name to that feeling, it grows. That is the power of words.
Scrapbooking quotes are just that: words. However, having these words in your scrapbook can result to very powerful effects. You see, words like these give you power. These scrapbooking quotes allow you to convey meaning. These words allow you to convey emotion.
Whether borrowed or your own, scrapbooking quotes can give clarity to the pictures you use to convey your thoughts. You see, the right scrapbooking quote can affect people in a very strong manner.

Fonts For All Your Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking Kits: Aids in Creating Fonts for ScrapbookingWhen you are about to work on a scrapbook, you will need the materials to get on with the task. A scrapbooking kit takes charge of this. Scrapbooking kits are complete. They are sold whether by local arts and crafts shops within your area or via online shopping. It will be a good idea to be armed with scrapbooking kits most especially if you are going to make your loved one or a special friend a gift for any occasion in his or her life such as birthdays, graduation, or wedding. If you do not know yet, the scrapbook can be a perfect gift for anyone at anytime.
Generally, you will need captions for the pictures that you will include in the scrapbook you are working on. So you will need especially effective journaling pens that do not smudge or blot. These journaling pens come included in the scrapbooking kit. You just have to make sure that the journaling pens are acid-free so they can work well on the photos and the cardstocks. But if you do want a ready-made font for scrapbooking, you can get it from the internet. There are thousands of fonts for scrapbooking as well as templates hosted by the internet.
The scrapbooking kit that you should purchase depends on the theme of the scrapbook that you will make. Is it for the holidays? A birthday? A wedding? A baptismal? Therefore, it points out that the scrapbooking kit which you must take hold of is suited to the occasion at hand. For example, a scrapbooking kit that is meant for the Christmas holidays will include sheets of papers that are the color of the holidays such as red, green, and yellow. There will also be cutouts of Santa Claus, candy canes, Christmas trees, wreaths, jingle bells, stickers, ribbons, and other Christmas-related items. It will be entirely different though for a birthday-inspired scrapbooking kit.
When creating fonts for scrapbooking, there is the latest technique known as the "rub on transfer". This technique is guaranteed by many to be smudge-free and cheaply priced for your upcoming scrapbook project.
The Supplies Needed
For the "rub on transfer" technique, all you need to procure are: one piece rub on transfer film which comes included in the scrapbooking kit, a fine mist hair gel which has a mega hold, a hairspray, a hair dryer, and an ink jet printer.
How it is done
In order to be successful in this rub on technique, just follow the following steps:
On the transfer film, spray the fine mist hair gel. So as to see if you've done the spraying evenly on the coverage of the film, hold up the film a few inches from the mirror. Just spray enough hair gel to cover the entire area of the film.
Dry the sprayed gel with a hair dyer. It needs not be too hot and too close to the film.
Make use of any available word processing program in your computer to design your artwork. You can opt to stamp and flip the images on the film using pigment-based inks.
Set your ink jet printer to either the "T shirt transfer" or "Mirror Image" mode. This step can be omitted if the images have already been flipped.
Print the images using the normal image print setting. It will ensure that the ink will not run.
Have the ink dry up in its place. You can employ the help of the hair dyer but be sure it will not dislocate the ink position.
Gently and smoothly rub on the printed image on the artwork. Make use of a spoon to rub the image in its place. Ensure that the entire area has been rubbed thoroughly so that the image transfer will be successful. After which, peel away the film from the artwork in a gentle way.
You now have a rubbed on image or font for your scrapbook. Wouldn't it be nice to see that your artwork has really been exerted with too much effort? The pleasure which you may derive from your craft is priceless. Being artistic pays off. Now you have an idea as to how to make fonts for your scrapbook.

Free Scrapbooking Ideas
Finding ideas to apply to your scrapbooking can be such a big pain. You are faced with the prospect of creating a masterpiece, yet you don't really know how to begin. Here are some suggestions for you to try out:1) Color - The simplest idea for a scrapbooking page should be a color. Basing your scrapbook pages on a single color though, can be quite complex if you want it to be. There are shades to experiments with. By trying on different shades of a color, you can have variety and yet stick with the same scrapbooking idea.
Another fun scrapbooking page idea that involves colors has you researching their different interpretations. By using colors this way, you can actually have a message that means something special to you.
2) Literature - Think of your favorite piece of literature and base your scrapbook on that. Taking inspiration from books or a poem is a really good scrapbooking idea. You see, authors sometimes picture their characters and stories so vividly, that you can visualize them in your mind. By placing these images on paper, you can actually share with people something that so inspired you.
Basing your scrapbook on a piece of literature can be pretty deep for some people to take. You may have to do a bit of explaining before someone gets the message of the scrapbook. In doing so, you get to show a part of your soul to the readers. It may also inspire people to take up reading.
3) Characters -Characters abound in the world that people can take inspiration from. In using characters, you have two options: A. Fiction - this idea for scrapbooking pages involves you taking a fictional character and using that character as an inspiration for your scrapbooking page. Contrary to what most people think, fictional characters are actually harder to research on than actual, living characters.
One reason is the fact that different people have different interpretations of them. Take Batman, for example. In the sixties, the TV series portrayed him as this campy superhero who wears grey and blue spandex. In the 1989 movie, he's a bit more brooding, and wears protective armor. In the movie "Batman and Robin" he is portrayed as this not so brooding, talkative character who wears a rubber suit with nipples. See how different people's perceptions of a fictional character can be?
One advantage to this, though, is the fact that you can have more freedom with this idea for a scrapbooking page. You see, not many people will question your interpretation of a fictional character. B. Non-fiction - In this idea for a scrapbooking page, you take your inspiration from a real person. It doesn't really matter if they are alive or dead. However, remember that people change all the time. Just take a look at Britney Spears and you'll probably realize the meaning of this statement.
By using real persons as your inspiration, you are actually offered a whole lot of detail on their lives. However, you won't really have the same freedom as when you are trying to do a fictional character.
4) Activities - Try getting an idea for scrapbooking pages from your favorite activity. Most guys would choose sports and stuff, and nothing's wrong with that. However, you may want to try being different and think outside the box. Base your scrapbook on an interest which no one can really guess. In doing this, you'll get to have additional fun by having people guess the connection of the page to the activity.
Sometimes, people tend to categorize us through our activities. However, you might want to prove to others your true depth by showing in your scrapbook that a certain activity foes not define the "whole" you.
You might want to show, using your scrapbook that even though you enjoy a particular activity, it is only a minor part of your existence and that you have a deeper facet to your personality than being a computer whiz, basketball jock and other stereotypical labels.
There you go: those are just some ideas for scrapbooking pages you might think about trying out. By trying out different things before you actually use them, you can actually see if those ideas for scrapbooking pages fit your personality .

Digital Scrapbooking Anyone?
Digital Scrapbooking . . . Is it for you?The digital artwork is making its way into the mainstream; so as the digital scrapbook. For sure, we have certain understanding about digital art, but what about digital scrapbook? Is it the same with digital art?
The two are both similar and different in many ways but we are not here to discuss deeply their differences and similarities. We are here to focus on the digital scrapbooking as an alternative to the traditional scrapbook making.
Traditional scrapbooks are make by hand with several materials such as papers, pens, letter cut outs, adhesives, and other embellishments you can think of. The main principle is; to create a wonderfully decorated page that would give better meaning on the message you want to address. Digital scrapbooking works on the same principle too. You create unique page with decorations to enhance the meaning of the massage you want to address.
What sets the two apart is the method of achieving this principle. As mentioned, traditional scrapbooking uses material such as papers, pens, letter cut outs, adhesives, and other embellishments. Digital scrapbooking on the other hand uses computer graphics that replaces these traditional materials. You may say it is harder to work on the page design on the computer than on the actual page (traditional scrapbook). But, to be honest, it is almost the same.
Take the following for example:
The traditional scrapbook will work on a background or layout (sometimes called a template), pictures, texts, and embellishments. The process goes like this: you place the pictures on the background, place some embellishments of your type, and write some texts.
The digital scrapbook will work on software with all the available digital embellishments and texts. You have scanned pictures to be placed on a chosen background. Put some texts and add more design. Then, with some more editing on the colors and borders, you have created a scrapbook page.
(Speaking of software. There are several software that would let you create digital scrapbooks. These are Microsoft® Digital Image Pro, Photoshop® Elements or Adobe® Photoshop®, Ulead PhotoImpact®, or Jasc Paint Shop Pro®, to name a few.)
Oftentimes, it is much easier to create a digital scrapbook than a traditional one. This is because software that lets you create digital scrapbook with ready to use templates for texts and backgrounds, not to mention the editing tools you need. These features make it easier to create one unique page. Downloadable templates are readily available over the internet to widen up your choices on text, embellishments, and background. This is unlike traditional scrapbook that every thing is yours to make; from the background to the cutting of the decoration.
To further illustrate how does a digital page is created, here are the steps to follow:
· Create a new image from a blank canvas
· Define the size of the page you will use.
· Enter the settings you want to adapt.
· Add the photo
Photos determine the color scheme of the layout, therefore, you may want to see first what picture will you going to use before determining the mat of the canvas.
To add a photo, you must first save one on a file. You can either scan pictures or take them from your digital cameras.
· Create the background
Now that you have a determined canvas and photo, it is time for you to select your background. Here, the choices are endless. You can download images from the internet or use your photos to be the background itself. You can edit the texture of the background to match the theme you want to achieve.
· Create the photo mat
Photo mats let the background and the photo meet on a certain point.
· Add the text and embellishments
Ready made texts and embellishments are one good feature of digital scrapbooking software. This helps you to put important touches fast and easy.
· Apply some finishing touches
Final editing is as important as placing everything in order. Make use of built in features such as shadows, emboss, effects, and others. This would help your page look more attractive as it highlights whatever you want to be highlighted.

Easy Scrapbooking Layout Tips
Many scrapbook starters would find it difficult to create a layout. If you are one of them, then you may have to read the following to get some easy ideas on what are the different types of scrapbook layouts you can use.Patterned paper layout
When using patterned paper as a scrapbook page layout, you should follow the following rules: Never use a paper with a pattern larger than the smallest photographed head; patterned papers are secondary to the photos so never give too much concern if you cannot find the right photos to go on the pattern; and, use plain paper over the pattern as a journal box.
Nameplate layout
Use large letter tiles to make bold effect on the layout. You can use stamps to put your name on the page. Stencils would also be a great way to do this. Other methods such as using all sorts of embellishments to spell a name, embroidering the name on the page or using fonts like calligraphy would be great.
Handprint layout
Whether you are an artist or not, handprinting the page would give you unique layout. Use acrylic paints, colored pens, watercolors, or crayons to do this.
To come out neat, you can concentrate the large handprints around the borders of the page. Smaller handprints can come in between.
Newspaper layout
Create a page that would relatively look like a newspaper's front page. This would work best if you intent to make a page that focuses on the significant event. Use an Old English font as a heading; somewhat similar to the heading of a newspaper. Then, use a large text for the headline. A Times New Roman font is for the story. Place a photo on the side or at the middle of the page.
Rub-on Transfers layout
Using rub-on transfers is both easy and tricky. It is easy in the sense that all you have to do is to rub-on and you have an instant layout. It is tricky in the sense that you have to practice in order to achieve a perfect transfer. If you are using rub-on transfers for the first time, then you might as well start on a smooth surface. Once you get the hang of it, move on to the next level and use the transfer on surfaces such as metal, mesh, ribbon, and glass.
If you prefer to use rub-on transfers to these surfaces, make sure that they are adhere enough to make permanent contact. Some brands are stickier than the other.
Z pattern layout
Arrange all the materials you have on a Z pattern. Meaning, the arrangements should start on the top left of the page and move on a Z pattern.
Focal point layout
Use one photo as a focal point and move outwards. The focal point can be a large photo. This would give the viewer a starting point on where to begin looking. If you are using 3 or more photos, try to make some arrangements. You can use 3 different photo sizes arranged diagonally, with the focal point on the largest photo. You can also use one large photo with 2 small photos on each side. Or, you can use 3 photos of the same size and make arrangement to highlight a certain point.
Aging paper layout
Weathering a paper is a popular technique on creating a layout. There are several ways to do this.
One is by damping the paper and ironing it to dry. This would create all sort of weathered look to the paper.
Another way of aging the paper is by rolling it into a ball to make it look wrinkled. Then, sand it with a finest grained sand paper you can find.
There are more scrapbook ideas you can use but these would be sufficient enough to finish your scrapbook.
If you want to make other types of layouts, you can combine 2 or more mentioned types of layouts to make one unique layout. The thing is, use your imagination and creativity to make a good layout and you can assure yourself that what you have made is truly yours.

Ideas For Scrapbooking the Major Events in Your Life!
Scrapbooking is one of the most popular hobbies in the United States today. One of the more popular trends in scrapbooking now is to create scrapbooks of everyday moments. But it's still important to create more traditional scrapbooks - scrapbooks of vacations, weddings, and babies. And while a few ideas for scrapbooking these events follow, inspiration can be found all around.Ideas for Scrapbooking Your Wedding...
While most people have an album of wedding picture, creating a scrapbook of your wedding can be so much more. A photo album just holds the pictures from your wedding; a scrapbook tells the store. One idea for scrapbooking your wedding is to tell the story of how you and your spouse met. You can include pictures of each you growing up, pictures of the two of you together when you started dating, and finish with a picture from your wedding. Another idea for scrapbooking your wedding is to include memorabilia, such as flower petals and ribbon from your bouquet, a copy of your invitation, and the program from your ceremony. And in your wedding scrapbook you can also include a section of your lives after the wedding - honeymoon pictures, pictures of your first home together, and the story of your first anniversary.
Ideas for Scrapbooking Your Baby Album...
Creating a scrapbook for your baby is usually pretty easy, since you have so much inspiration from the pictures! But there are ways to make your baby's scrapbook unique. One popular idea for scrapbooking your baby is to create an album with one layout for each month of your baby's life. Not only will you be able to capture all of the precious memories, but you will be able to see how much he or she has grown over the course of the year. A lot of new moms like to scrapbook their pregnancy as well. You can include when you first found out you were expecting, the first pictures of your baby (the sonogram!), and pictures of setting up the nursery and the baby shower. Another idea for scrapbooking your baby album is to include journaling from both parents about the first time you saw and held your baby.
Ideas for Scrapbooking Your Vacation...
Probably the most common scrapbook that people make is a vacation scrapbook. An easy idea for scrapbooking your vacation is to keep a journal while you're on vacation. Then, when you get home, the journaling for your scrapbook is already completed (and you haven't forgotten any of the fun details!) And don't forget to take pictures of some of the non-sightseeing parts of your trip - traveling (on the plane, train, or in the car), arriving at the hotel, some of the fun meals you eat, and the mishaps that inevitably happen on vacation. Another idea for scrapbooking your vacation is to save all the ephemera you collect as you travel (ticket stubs, coins, brochures, etc.) to use when you get home on a page.
