Scribblenauts Review: What You Need to Know about Scribblenauts
Scribblenauts is one of the most original games to come along in a long time. The reason it's so original is because it challenges your imagination and creativity. There are hundreds of puzzles, and you have to figure out which items you need to solve each puzzle. The catch is each puzzle has more than one solution.
The object of the game is to complete each puzzle and collect a "starite." You accomplish this by writing or typing nouns into the game. You can summon objects, people, and creatures to help achieve your goal. For example, you could grab a starite from a tree branch by typing "ladder." The ladder would appear and you could climb it to reach the starite. Just about any noun you type appears in the game (as long as it's not obscene or a copyrighted term). Scribblenauts is the first game that gives players this kind of control over items appearing in the game.
The Scribblenauts dictionary is virtually unlimited with more than 20,000 words. You could spend hours typing in words just to see if they appear. I typed "zombie", and was surprised to see it appear and turn everyone into a zombie. There are also two modes of gameplay. Puzzle mode is when you must solve a puzzle to make the starite appear. Challenge mode requires you to solve a puzzle three times in a row, but without using any object more than once.
Scribblenauts is fun for all ages because anyone who can spell can play. My 5-year old niece can't even spell yet, but she tells me what to write so she can see it in the game. This is a unique game that gives you hours of playing time. Plus, the replay value is very high.

Drawn to Life Review
Is Drawn to Life for DS Similar to Scribblenauts?
Drawn to Life for the Nintendo DS / Nintendo DSi is somewhat similar to Scribblenauts. It's nowhere near as advanced, but that's not surprising because Drawn to Life was released 2-years earlier. To be fair, this game truly was the first one to use the "drawing objects to solve puzzles" idea.
Use your stylus to create weapons, tools, plants, and even your own hero. Your hero can fly, swim, jump, run and do other things you give them the power to do. Your choices are limited, though. There's only so much the game allows you to do. However, your imagination is certainly put to the test.
You can't create as many things as you can with Scribblenauts, but Drawn to Life is still a creative game that challenges your creativity. It's even possible to share your creations with other players via a Nintendo DS Wi-Fi connection or multi-card wireless play.
The sequel,Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter, pretty much follows the style of the first game. FYI: The Drawn to Life Games were created by the same people behind Scribblenauts.

Is Scribblenauts Suitable for a 5-Year Old?
Scribblenauts is recommended for people that know how to read, write and spell. However, a young child can play the game if an adult or teen plays with them. If a child can't read, write or spell, they won't be able to interact with the game on their own.The child will need someone to explain what they're supposed to do. The child will also need someone to write the words for them. It's also important to spell the words correctly. You should only buy this game for a young child if you or another capable person will play with them.

PictoImage DS Review
How Does PictoImage Compare to Scrabblenauts?
PictoImage for the Nintendo DS / Nintendo DSi is strictly a drawing game. There aren't any puzzles to solve - at least not in the typical sort of way. If you're playing alone, you have to look at drawings and figure out what they are. Some of them are hard to guess, especially the ones by young kids. When playing with another person you both draw images, and then figure out what the other person drew.
The game isn't that much fun to play by yourself. You can tell from the game box cover that it's intended for group play. The best thing about playing alone is you get to practice your drawing.
Fun starts when you play with at least one other person. I got Pictoimage so my niece and I could play together. She's only 5-years old, and her drawing skills are typical for a child of her age. That makes it fun, though. She thinks it's ridiculous that I almost never figure out what she's drawn.
PictoImage is a fun game to play with family and friends. It's also fun for a person that enjoys drawing. If you don't enjoy drawing pictures, then you won't like this game.

- I'm sure he'd love it. You'd just have to help him with the spelling. My niece tells me her ideas, and I write them for her.
