Got a Scrooge Saying Bah Humbug this Christmas?
Have YOU ever had a Grinch moment during the frenzy of the holiday season? Maybe you live or work everyday with a Scrooge. If you know a Scrooge who says "Bah Humbug" to tradition, stick around to get some help in dealing with your inner Scrooge.
POLL: YOU a Scrooge?
Consider WHY Scrooge is Scrooge
Scrooge grew up in an orphanage, never HAD a family nor a traditional happy Christmas. His mother died at his birth and his father left him. In the film 'A Christmas Carol' ghosts follow Scrooge through various stages of his life. They help him realize that he has done more bad than good and he eventually finds redemption.

Other Reasons for a Bah Humbug Christmas?
Christmas is tough just after a divorce or a death.

Some become a Scrooge because they don't HAVE a family. Maybe they are estranged or just too far away to be together. Then there are those people who lost their family due to divorce or death, leaving the holiday to only be a painful reminder of happier times. Maybe they have their own 'Ghosts of Christmas Past' and wish to escape that sadness and loss. Facing the holidays without someone you love can put a painful tug in the stomach and tears in the eyes.
Give Scrooge a Break
There can be many legitimate reasons a person might feel like a Scrooge at Christmas time...

The financial strain of our down-turned economy might likely give birth to many variations of Scrooge during this holiday season.  Maybe Scrooge is tired of all the forced happiness and relentless cheer that accompanies the holiday season and finds it to be an insanity of over-commercialization, annoying relatives and stress. Maybe even YOU have had your own Scrooge moments when you felt that way.
Don't be too hard on ole' Scrooge. What gift can you get some Grinch who does not feel the festive spirit as others do? Have a blast here finding the perfect gift for your Scrooge.

Why the Grinch REALLY Stole Christmas
Research study explains Grinch behavior.
Scrooge and Grinch might be easier to understand given these findings. Not only physically isolated, but maybe more importantly both are socially isolated. They feel no sense of connection to the people around them.
Fortunately, both the Grinch and Scrooge have an epiphany (a Gestalt moment) which in real-life would probably require a couple years of therapy.
The bottom line is maybe that there IS hope for those suffering from being lonely, but they need genuine connection and relationships with real people -not just faces in a crowd or 'friends' on a FB page. Those things may be a supplement to real relationships, but never believe they can replace them.

Is Santa Dead?
How's a KID gonna understand the economy? Christmas is Christmas and Santa is MAGIC! Right?
Consider tiny tots watching TV commercials right now and getting excited about Santa coming and bringing toys on their Christmas list. Do ya suppose the word 'budget' means anything to these kiddos? Heck no, for even IF they knew what a budget was, they sure don't expect Santa Claus to have one. Hey, Santa is magic, right? He can do anything. So if the parents of those kids are challenged with the upcoming holidays, could anyone judge them? What will mom and dad do about 'playing Santa' this year if they are unemployed? Maybe they even lost their home this year due to foreclosure. Where will the money come from for all those toys? They can't tell the kid that Santa is dead, now can they?
DUEL: Scrooge VS Grinch
Which is YOUR favorite Christmas meanie?
Both Scrooge & Grinch deliver a negative perspective about the holidays, yet in very different ways. Scrooge is a real person, while Grinch is an animated cartoon character. Both are featured in popular Christmas books and movies, but Scrooge goes back farther in history and has by far more featured films about him. Scrooge lives in a mansion with the best life has to offer while Grinch lives in a cave with a dog. Scrooge is a selfish tightwad miser and Grinch is a mean nasty voyeur who spies upon the town of Whoville. Some prefer Scrooge while others like Grinch.
VS
Both Scrooge & Grinch have their own way of saying 'I Hate Christmas' yet change that view by the end of the story. After Christmas spirits impress upon Scrooge the selfish miser he really is, he begins spreading his wealth to those most in need. After Grinch watches the Whos celebrate Christmas without all the gifts & decorations he has stolen, and his heart grows three sizes and even ended up carving the roast beast for Christmas dinner.

I choose Scrooge as my favorite of the two. After all, Scrooge is re-birthed in the true spirit of Christmas - Love of others and of self - re-birthed with a giving spirit.

Even though Scrooge is mean, it's easy to relate to his sentiments. And then he changes - that gives hope to us all!

Scrooge is motivated by greed and money. It seems that more people are motivated by greed than the lack of a kindly upbringing. The story gives us hope that it is not about the money but the human spirit. But...I love Roast Beast!

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Classic Christmas Book
How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Amazon Price: $1.47 (as of 02/15/2012)![]()
LOVE Boris Korloff's deep baritone voice in the film..."YOU'RE a MEAN ONE, MR. GRINCH!". Based on Dr. Seuss's wacky and wonderful classic picture book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the motion picture, this novel elaborates on the story of a holiday gone awry. Little Cindy Lou Who, her cheerfully dopey dad, Lou Lou Who, her semi-delinquent teenage brothers Stu and Drew Lou Who, and the nastiest, most cynical, evil-hearted Grinch star in this Christmas comedy. Seventeen color photos from the film are included. (Ages 8 to 12)
"Scrooge in Bethlehem" Book
A Christmas Carol -- Scrooge in Bethlehem (A Musical for Children Based Upon a Story by Charles Dickens): Director's Score (Score)
Amazon Price: $14.87 (as of 02/15/2012)![]()
"A Christmas Carol: Scrooge in Bethlehem" is an adaptation of Charles Dickens 19th-centruy English story, A Christmas Carol. In this merry adaptation Scrooge is the Bethlehem Innkeeper who refuses shelter to Mary and Joseph on that first Christmas night. His front desk clerk, Bob Cratchit, comes to their aid while Scrooge sleeps alone in his dark room in the inn. When God sends an angel with the Light of Salvation to Scrooge, the wretched man is forced to search his soul. Gradually he realizes that he has traded his soul for money. His final redemption reflects the promise of salvation for all, both poor and rich, in the birth of Emmanuel, God with us.
“That idiot Scrooge shot my reindeer. Can ya give me a lift back to the North Pole?”

The classic movie "A Christmas Carol"
Due to the circumstances and choices in the life of Ebenezer Scrooge, he has chosen money over mankind. His partner now seven years dead comes back to warn Ebenezer of his afterlife fate if he does not change his ways. To assist in this task are three spirits, Christmas past (his past), Christmas present, and Christmas of things to come. Can or will Ebenezer change his ways? Why should he?

Hilarious Christmas film "BAD Santa"
Xmas DVD: funny or vulgar? Let your Scrooge or Grinch decide.
Badder Santa (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Amazon Price: $1.87 (as of 02/15/2012)![]()
People who love this film call it a laugh til ya cry feature of unbelievable hilarity, while others call is dark humor full of raunchy vulgarity. A drunken Santa and his angry midget sidekick with a shopaholic wife pulling off Christmas time burglaries at the mall. A serious faux pas for the young or anyone easily offended, so be warned. On the other hand this could be the best gift ever for Grinch and Scrooge.

The BEST is the Gift of Your TIME!

The # 1 gift to give your Scrooge friend is ...
your TIME!
THINK about it! Scrooge was Scrooge mainly because no one ever spent TIME with him...and both he and Grinch softened from their mean and nasty ways only when they finally got some kind of real love and were INCLUDED in holiday festivities. Take your Scrooge out to dinner. Ask his (her) opinion. Go fishing with him... Or go on some other outing. Offer to work on a project with him. Quit insisting that Scrooge define Christmas in the same way YOU do. Give Scrooge coupons for your TIME and watch the transformation...if you really CARE about your Grinchy-Scrooge.

Scrooge Version of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'
from Bah Humbug Gold CD

Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house, every creature was hurtin' even the mouse.
The toys were all broken, their batteries dead; Santa passed out, with some ice on his head.
Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while upstairs the family continued to snore.
And I in my T-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans, I went into the kitchen and started to clean.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the curtains, and threw up the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a little white truck, with an oversized mirror.
The driver was smiling, so lively and grand; the patch on his jacket said "U.S. POSTMAN."
With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox. Then quickly he stuffed them into our mailbox.
Bill after bill, after bill, they still came. Whistling and shouting he called them by name:
"Now Dillard's, now Famous Barr's, now Neiman's and Sak's. Here's Walmart's, Kohl's and Target's and Sear's.
To the tip or your limit, every store, every mall, Now chargeaway-chargeaway-chargeaway all!"
He whooped and he whistled as he finished his work. He filled up the box, and then turned with a jerk.
He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road, driving much faster with just half a load.
Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer,
"ENJOY WHAT YOU BOUGHT.......
YOU'LL BE PAYING ALL YEAR!"
“Perhaps Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.”

I think just about everybody has had that feeling at some stage particularly if something bad has happened to them around that time of the year, I always love getting a bargain when I spend my money, but generally I don't care what it costs around Christmas it is only money, when I hear about how crappy our economy is on the news I turn it off, because if everybody stops spending does it make the economy any better, and gifts don't always have to cost a lot of money as long as it is a gift from the heart, that's really all that matters.

"Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" Lyrics by Scrooge
Lyrics by Stephen Elkins from Humbug Gold CD

O little Bank Americard, like money that grows on trees.
I sign my name, I feel no pain, til late January.
And if I reach my limit, don't think the shopping's done.
Take heart dear soul, don't lose control
Just order another one.
O little Bank Americard, I don't think of it as debt.
I take stuff home, things I now own
But haven't paid for yet.
It's like monopoly money, the spending isn't real
So rest awhile, in sweet denial
How good you make me feel.
"Oh Come All Ye Faithful" gets Grinched

Dot com all ye fretful, joyless and disgruntled
Dot com ye, dot com ye, just buy it on line.
Dot com, you can't afford it - but click, and now it's yours
Much easier than shopping, I never plan on stopping
The thrills and bills are whopping, dot com is for me.
Dot com all ye fretful, no more malls awaiting
Dot com ye, dot com ye, just click the little mouse
Within twenty-four hours, it's at your door, so now is
The time to buy it brother, dot com, there is no other
So glad I have discovered - dot com is for me.
Lyrics by Stephen Elkins

"Joy to the World, the Lord Has Come" - Scrooge Version

Joy to the world, Fed Ex has come!
They've saved me once again.
I ordered much too late to get it Christmas day
But for twenty extra bucks, they'll put it in their trucks
And they'll get it to me, so I won't be a schmuck.
Joy to the world, Fed Ex has come!
Just in the nick of time.
She thought that I'd forgotten, confirming I was rotten
But a hero I was made, it arrived and I was saved
But without them, I'd be sleeping in my Chevrolet.
Joy to the world, Fed Ex has come!
They bring me Christmas cheer
With gas 3 bucks a gallon, to the mall, I'd soon be howlin'
Just overnight it please, that makes such sense to me
And wait in my easy chair for the doorbell to ring.
Lyrics by Chad Elkins

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" Christmas Song
Scrooge Version

Arrest that raging gentleman who shops this Christmas Day
He's looking for an Elmo doll - Good luck! To him I say
He's done some things no one should do, I think he's lost his mind!
They sold out of the Elmo, none can find, it's one of a kind!
...
He's tearing open every box, the cops now we will call
All because of a little Elmo doll, the cops in the mall
Have arrested him and that, my friend, is all!

a Scrooge?
Me? I'm no Scrooge...not really. In fact when my sons were young I LOVED Christmastime. Things changed a LOT over the years though, and some changes tended to make the holiday season more TRAGIC than MAGIC.
I do think the holidays can be WAY over-commercialized, to the point where it appears to be a real joke. CHEERS to Capitalism!

- What fun! And there's much truth in humor. I think if we just remember that Christmas is nothing more than a celebration of the birth of Christ, of Love, then there's no reason for a Bah! Humbug! moment. I don't buy into the commercialization and gift giving of Christmas -- much to the dismay of others. I buy into the joy and love and fun of the season and I enjoy every moment.
