I spent the first ten years of my career managing social enterprises and my doctoral dissertation researched the values of social enterprise leaders. The practical application of my research is explored in "The Leadership Decision: Selecting, Training and Motivating Social Enterprise Leaders," available as a live seminar CD (see the advanced resources below).
I currently provide training for nonprofit organizations that want to develop earned income ventures. Much of this work is done through Duke University's Certficate in Nonprofit Management.

- The Social Enterprise Alliance is the national association for nonprofits engaged in earned income activities.
- npEnterprise Forum
- The npEnterprise Forum is a free listserv that includes nonprofit managers, board members, consultants, researcher and others interested in social enterprise. This is a great source of information. The moderators do an excellent job of managing the traffic to keep messages to a minimum.
- Funding Sources
- This is a great directory of various funding sources for social enterprises. It is on the Social Enterprise Alliance website but I thought a direct link might be more helpful.
