Seabrook Island - Natural Vacation Spot

Seabrook island is located about 25 miles from Charleston, South Carolina.

There is an abundance of protected wildlife at Seabrook. Watch the deer and the alligators. How many deer can you spot at sundown? Admire the many bird species. See foxes dart through the neighborhoods.

I personally enjoy sitting on the back screened porch of our favorite home at daybreak -- drinking coffee and watching the animals start their day.

Notes from my blog last summer:
My sister and I are visiting Seabrook Island, SC. In the past 24 hours we have seen -- from our front row seats on the screened porch facing Gator Lake -- a fox, ten deer, one big turtle, a house wren who sang for us, four cardinals, a woodpecker, blue jays, crows, squirrels and numerous colorful butterflies.

The biggest thrill was seeing the alligators! Our first visitor was a medium sized one. Later we spotted a huge gator a little further down the lake. Today we have enjoyed watching a small gator, obviously a baby or a teenager. The gators are fascinating creatures. We have listened to the sounds of nature and watched patiently for our next visitor.

Later as we sat on the beach, we watched seven dolphins, a dozen pelicans, a lone sandpiper, and of course the seagulls.

Each creature sighting moved us more into the flow of God's Divine Order, and to a more restful place inside us. It was as if each visitor brought its own gift of peace. We have moved out of the rat race of everyday life and into a zone of nature. What a joy! We are most thankful for each of our special visitors! And we appreciate being here, on this beautiful island for these few days! This has been an experience of appreciation for the abundance and variety in nature and we are filled with awe and gratitude!

Angel Oak

an absolute must visit

Angel Oak Tree

One of the places you must visit when at Seabrook Island is Angel Oak -- just a few miles up the road. The Angel Oak is a live oak, now owned by the City of Charleston. The diameter spreads 160 feet. Its age is estimated to be about 1400 years. Think about that a minute. 1400 years ago, the year would have been 608 AD. To stand under this huge old tree stirs the soul. If you let your imagination fly for a few minutes and think of all the history lessons you ever learned, you can just see the children playing under that tree from generation to generation for years and years and years and years before you got here.

Take your camera. There is a small gift shop there, too, for those important souvenirs. It won't take you long to browse the property (less than an hour probably). Sometimes a lady is there weaving the famous Charleston baskets. It is a true pleasure to watch her weave and to visit with her. Her skill has been passed from generation to generation. While you are there, treat yourself to one of her lovely baskets for your home. These baskets are a treasure!

I like this lens a lot. I have stayed down in neighboring Kiawah the last eight years. We rent a villa on the neighboring island. I can relate to this appreciation of the sand, surf, and sandpipers! This lens makes me anxious for another family vacation down on the coastal islands. Well done lens!

What a beautiful lens with such lovely photos! It reminds me of a vacation a few years ago on Frith Island, South Carolina. Everything was perfect. The restaurants with southern cooking, using golf carts to get around the island, the walks on the beach early in the morning. We even managed to see some alligators.

I've spent a lot of time in Charleston, it was beautiful. I've never been to Seabrook, though, but I may driven near it. I think I've driven the entire coast. We went to Hilton Head, too. That was nice, too. Congratulations on making Squid Angel!

Hello from the Southern California coast! It's always a pleasure to see your love of your home state. I grew up somewhat of beach bum myself, so I have a great appreciation for almost all beach locations. I have never heard of Seabrook Island and honestly don't know if my travels will take me to South Cacalaki anytime soon, but I do have fond memories of my visits to Charleston's Folly Beach area and Myrtle Beach.
