Denture retention
Denture Seal System
Denture construction is a true artform. Trying to design and build an acrylic appliance to survive within the mouth for several years is a true challenge.
Denture fixatives have been around in one shape or form for many years. Although improvements have been seen they are still essentailly simply a sticky paste which is relatively messy and unpleasant to use.
Why Sealdown?
How does the SealDown%u2122 Denture system compare to other denture lining systems?
Although there are other denture lining systems available they do not provide a seal and only offer limited cushioning. In the past these liners have been unreliable, losing their softness within a matter of weeks as the plasticiser (softening) agent leaks out of them. Their adhesion to the base of the denture has also been a problem, resulting in them peeling away from the denture. They have not been used as long term solutions often only being used if a denture proved to be painful to use.
Who is the SealDown%u2122 Denture for?
Anyone who uses denture(s) should benefit from the system.
Who will benefit most from the SealDown%u2122 Denture System?
Successful use of standard dentures is highly dependent upon patient tolerance. A degree of muscle control is required to help stabilise them and stop them simply floating around (especially the case with lower dentures).
The SealDown%u2122 Denture System will thus benefit anyone with a full upper/ lower denture(s).
The SealDown%u2122 Denture System will especially benefit the following cases;
Older age groups, especially those who lost their teeth in later life, as stabilising muscle control will be harder for them to learn then master.
Physically compromised patients are more likely to suffer from ill fitting, traumatic dentures and least likely to be fit for implant treatments. E.g. Facial Stroke victims often lose some muscle control on one side of the face, which vastly decreases their ability to stabilise their dentures.
Mentally compromised patients. Medically compromised patients may be unsuitable for any other stabilising treatments (implants) due to health contraindications.
The SealDown%u2122 Denture System is designed to reduce these problems.
How important are stable, comfortable dentures?
A balanced diet is vital to health and well-being. Denture instability often restricts the patient to very soft (overcooked) food. When overcooked, many foods lose their nutritional value (minerals and vitamins are broken down) which in turn has considerable implications on general health issues.
Why do people prefer the SealDown%u2122 System?
The SealDown%u2122 System is convenient and easy to use for both the patient and treating dentist.
By promoting greater confidence in denture stability the SealDown%u2122 System offers an improved lifestyle, without the inconvenience of denture fixative materials. Lower Dentures tend to be the most challenging to make successfully and are commonly difficult to keep in place. Gravity will only act as a small downward force and the floor of the mouth is very muscular which can push the denture up/ out of place.
Over time the tongue muscles tend to get more used to the shape of the denture and adapt to keep it in place, however, tolerance often remains very difficult. Denture fixatives do not tend to work very well with lower dentures as they get washed away and fixatives require a relatively dry surface to initially stick to. This is not easily achieved in the lower jaw as it is naturally bathed in saliva. The SealDown%u2122 System benefits from saliva as it helps to maintain the seal.
Can the SealDown%u2122 System improve the health of your mouth?
The Antiskid features of the SealDown%u2122 System reduce trauma to the oral soft tissues which could otherwise lead to ulceration/ soreness of the mouth. The SealDown%u2122 Seal helps to seal out food and other potentially irritating particles from under the denture. The cushioning effect of the SealDown%u2122 System helps to spread loads, reducing pain with biting. Properly made dentures can be less stressful on the supporting bone and jaw joints.
I have had problems with gagging in the past, can the SealDown%u2122 system help?
It is possible to make upper dentures that have little/ no palate, resulting in a massive increase in denture acceptability (tolerance) to the patient (in direct competition with implants). There is less gagging as the post dam (middle area at the very back of the upper denture) does not need to be extended so far and because the dam area is soft too, there is less.
Are there any alternative treatments?
An alternative would be (osseo-integrated) implants, however, they have several very important limitations;
High (often prohibitive) initial treatment cost
Risk of failure
Increased failure rate in smokers
Complicated oral surgical procedure
Risk of surgical complications (post operative infection etc)
Long treatment time (often over 6months)
Contraindicated in some patients for medical reasons.
Not suitable is cases of low bone support cases (grafts/ sinus lifts are not always suitable).
Possible nerve damage in the case of treatment in the posterior regions of the lower jaw (mandible). This depends on the vicinity of the Mental Foramen which carries the nerve which supplies sensation to the lower lip. Damage can lead to short-term or permanent lip dumbness.
Possible damage to the (maxillary) air sinuses in the case of treatment in the posterior regions of the upper jaw (maxilla).
How does The SealDown%u2122 Denture work?
The manufacture of the SealDown%u2122 Denture allows a peripheral seal to be added to the denture fitting surface (that which contacts the oral soft tissues). This acts much like a sucker, however it only activates when the denture is pulled away from the jaw. This is an incredibly important design feature as constant sucking could otherwise lead to irritation of the region.
What are the primary benefits of a SealDown%u2122 Denture?
The SealDown%u2122 Denture reduces/eliminates the following common denture problems:
Reduced retention, especially with the lower denture.
Low stability of both dentures (they tilt and move!).
Difficulty with eating and talking.
Food being trapped under the dentures
Gagging caused by needing to extent the upper denture back.
Soreness due to trauma which could be pre-neoplastic.
What quality control methods are related to the technology?
The materials used have all passed strict quality controls and have been used for many years in dentistry. The SealDown%u2122 System has been CE Marked for your protection (Registered CE Mark: CA 010085).
Can the SealDown%u2122 System be added to existing full dentures?
Yes, however;
We recommend that dentures are replaced every 5-7 years.
The SealDown%u2122 System requires a laboratory procedure, thus you will need to be without your denture(s) for several days.
Problems with the old dentures may not be corrected by having the SealDown%u2122 system modification (including incorrect bite, tooth position, appearance etc...).

- What is the Sealdown Denture?
"A revolutionary new denture system, used to help full dentures SealDown%u2122 into position."
The SealDown%u2122 Denture is a NEW denture system which allows upper and lower dentures to be sealed into position in a far more successful way than previous standard full dentures.
Skidding around is reduced and they are cushioned, achieving an overall greater comfort and confidence for the patient.
The system uses a modified manufacturing process to completely change the fitting surface (the part that contacts your soft jaw tissues).
No mess
Better denture retention
Denture fixative paste is NOT required
No unpleasant taste
All for your confidence
Soft cushioning effect of the SealDown%u2122 Denture Seal
Healthier for your oral soft tissues
Use of a flexible seal and fitting surface creates very retentive dentures (both upper and lower), which are also cushioned for comfort.
Increased denture retention allows less compromise on the denture bulk, which will permit freedom to offer non surgical facelifts (reducing wrinkles by filling out these areas). So when denture stability and retention is assured the clinician is free to build out areas to reduce ageing lines, which would not have been "advisable" previously.
