Monkey Sea, Sea Monkey!
SeaMonkeys: My moist little friends from childhood were an important part of growing up. Maybe important is the wrong word. They were part of growing up. From my first batch purchased by my parents and reared in an old Cheez Whiz jar, to my eventual graduation to the Ghostly Galleon aquarium, hybrid artemia salina have long held a special place in my water-logged heart.
Please stick, or swim, around for a little while and learn about the history of the simple science experiment which spawned a 40-year phenomena (and counting)!

- That just sounds cute. This doesn't: Sea-Monkey is a brand name of a hybrid of Artemia salina, a species of brine shrimp. These are a type of fairy shrimp-not true shrimp, but a branchiopod. The term Sea-Monkeys (sometimes unhyphenated) is a trademark used to sell them as a novelty gift. They originate in salt lakes and salt evaporation flats.

- Sea-Monkeys® have what I like to call the three "ibles..." They are affordable, portable, and adorable. What other pet comes with a replacement guarantee!!! Watch them as they are born - watch them as they grow - watch them as they raise small families in the plastic tank you are supplied with! Just remember that they don't appear exactly as illustrated!

Mr. Sea Monkey: An Obituary
News article chronicling the death of a master marketer.
Harold von Braunhut, who ingeniously marketed one of the ugliest and most boring aquatic creatures in existence -- the almost-invisible brine shrimp -- as" SeaMonkeys," died last month. "...Mr. von Braunhut's piece de resistance was Sea Monkeys -- which come from dried-up lake bottoms, not the sea, and are not monkeys but brine shrimp. His extravagant claims for the crustaceans -- for example, that they come back from the dead and that they can be trained and hypnotized-- are convincing because they are sort of true. (The shrimp do follow light.)Billions of shrimp have been sold, not to mention a Sea Monkey aphrodisiac and a wrist watch filled with swimming shrimp. There are Web sites for sea monkey fans; CBS briefly had a Sea Monkeys series on Saturday mornings; 400 million of them went into space with John Glenn in 1998; and, for the lazy, a new Sea Monkey video game allows a player to 'virtually' care for a shrimp colony, lest the animals 'virtually' die

Many endless hours of childhood fun. I want to get some for my office now. I still have an old SM tank somewhere.
