Why Search Engine Reputation Management?

The Internet has made to world smaller. Anybody anywhere with an Internet connection can find out just about anything they want to know about you.

People and companies can have their online reputations tarnished to a point that it may be almost impossible to recover from, unless they take proactive steps to insure that they own the search engine results pages for their name.

What is showing up?

When is the last time you "Googled" your name? Jim Killeen did just that found a broad range of people that shared his name with him, from Priest to swingers and made a movie about it.

What is amazing though when you Google his name now you find where other accusing him of ripping off other peoples ideas. Now he is a public figure because of his movie. He has to be ready to handle the criticism.

If you have ever been divorced, arrested, made the news it is possible it shows up in the search engines. Even if other people that share your name with you that have had legal problems it can show.

It is just not high profile individuals that need to be concerned. From children to potential world leaders everyone should care about protecting their name, if they wish to make friends, influence others or do business online.
