You can use these web spiders to index access to web pages across the internet through search engines. After you submit your website, the spider goes to the site and searches through the pages and indexes them. What the spiders will do is read your content of the site, meta tags and even follow the links you have on your pages. The spider will deposit the information it gathered where your data is being indexed. Also, the spider will index any pages you have outgoing links to. Because web spiders only index a limited amount, it is best to try to keep your website under hundreds of pages.
If you update or change your site regularly, the spider should catch it as it returns periodically. Frequency of those returns is determined by the moderators of the search engines. Spiders can be viewed like books, in that they have a table of contents, true content, and an assortment of links that lead to other sources. A million pages a day are indexed by some spiders, such as Google, Lycos, Excite, and AltaVista.
In coming up with search engine placement, search engines look for information that is the closest to what the searcher is typing within their internal index. Thus, if your web page has the keyword "buy management book" listed in the search engine index and a searcher types in that keyword, then your web page will come up in the first page of results. However, you will get different rankings for different search engines as they all use different search algorithms to search their indexes.
Another clue you need to keep in mind is that you should remember the frequency of your keywords, along with where they are located on your web page. To prevent getting labeled a "spamdexer," you should keep your keyword density to around 3 to 7 percent. Another thing that search engines analyze are how the links form and what the linked pages are about. If the pages that are linked are related, then you shall see a definite higher score in the search engine rankings. You can easily get a better ranking in the search engine placement, if only you understand the way search engines work and use that knowledge to help your website get better rankings.
