SEO is important if you want to get your web page discovered by the search engines.
If you are to attract visitors to your website you have to use the right keywords on your pages, the keywords that people are actually searching for in the search engines.
There are free resources on the internet that enable you to research keywords for free. Two examples are:

Google AdWords Keyword Tool
There are others you can use, some being free and others are paid for.
It is best to use more than one keyword tool, just to check to see if they agree about the number of searches for a particular word or phrase.
Keywords research can be time consuming, but it is worth the effort if you want to give yourself the best possible chance of attracting visitors to your website.
I use a spreadsheet to list possible keywords for future use.
