How To Choose The Best Charitable Search Engines
- How are the charities selected?
- Is the selection of charities limited? If so, does the selection include those charities or charitable areas you are most interested in supporting?
- Where are the search results generated from (Google, Yahoo!, etc.)?
- What percentage of the revenue has donated to the selected charities?
- Is an easy method provided to help you integrate the search engine into your web browsers?
- Is their search page and results clean or cluttered?
- What additional features are available with the charitable search engine that might be useful (blog, directory, etc.)?
How Are The Charities Selected?
Some charitable search engines allow you to select your favorite charity. This is ideal if you have a specific charity you want to support. If that charity is not on the list, contact that charity and /or the search engine company and request it be added. I did this for one of the search engines and the charity was added promptly. Some charitable search engines have preselected the charities they will donate to. In this case, make sure they indicate which charities are selected. Also be aware that the selected charities may change on a regular basis (i.e. monthly). Using these search engines makes sense if you do not have a specific charity you want to support through your web surfing.
There is also some that allow the web surfers to vote on a preselected list of charities. The charity with the highest number of votes receives the donated funds. This adds an element of fun and suspense.

Where Are The Search Results Generated From?
If you are like me, you have a favorite search engine but then use others when needing a different set of results. You can do the same thing with charitable search engines. Determine the best choice for you and then add others for those times you want to change the search results.

What Percentage Of The Revenue Is Donated To The Selected Charities?
The purpose for changing your current search engine to a charitable search engine is to raise funds for charity. Unless you continuously search 24/7, no charity is going to get rich from your efforts. However, when many people are supporting the same charities through their web searches as well it adds up. The number of people makes a huge difference in how much the charity will receive.Another significant factor is how much of the advertising revenue generated is donated to the selected charities. There can be a significant difference between charitable search engines. They currently range from 10 percent to 100 percent.
Is An Easy Method Provided To Help You Integrate The Search Engine Into Your Web Browsers?
The charitable search engine should provide the tools and clear instructions on how to set up your browser. This is especially important if you are not a "computer wiz" and need the help.

Is The Search Page And Results Clean Or Cluttered?
Whether it is better to have a little or a lot of information on the search page and the search results is a personal preference. Take a look at the search page and do a few searches to get a feel for whether you are comfortable with the layout. Yea man, these are some great resources and stuff. I really like the one where you can pay schools back and things like that. We should really try and do more stuff like this. Man, this is cool. Who would have ever known you can help out just be doing some searching..you know? So awesome. I'm gonna tell all my co-workers and stuff. It's like my high school could be making tons of cash instead of selling baked goods and stuff like that. Can you imagine how big this is and stuff? It's like I can't even fathom the potential we have here as a collective group to make a change for the better good.
