Digital Marketers Faced with New Search Standards: Be Remarkable

Be Remarkable. Be REMARK-able. Be Re-MARKETABLE. Digital Marketers are faced with a new Google Search Feature called SearchWiki, creating a sort of "social search marketing" trend and promoting "social search optimization."

A Search Engine's main goal is to provide the user with the best answer to their query. SearchWiki is an extension of a personalized search experience with an added social aspect that enables users to see what others think about each webpage.

The Search Wiki Feature On Google Search Results

Promoting Social Search Optimization Through Personalized Google Search

If you have a Google Account and have recently searched a term on Google.com, you may have noticed two little grey boxes next to each search result. And, if you looked just a little closer, you may have also seen a little text bubble next to the words "Similar Pages" under each result. SearchWiki is a new Google feature that ties to a user's personal Google Account and personalizes that user's search experience.

SearchWiki lets users who are logged into a Google Account reorder their search results, delete results they don't like, move results up or down and make public comments on each search listing they encounter in an effort to provide the best and most relevant search results for the end user.

Search Wiki Promotes Social Marketing...

And New Standards Of Search Optimization, Website Development And Analytics

In theory, it can get users to spend more time on Google by interacting not only with the query itself but with the rest of the digital world through commenting and reading other user remarks.

This data collection feature gives Google qualitative feedback of quantitative results along with more eyes to promote pages, control rankings and police results. It also allows Google (and the rest of the world) to understand why people are clicking on certain search results, or not.

SearchWiki and Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Marketing Will Evolve With Search Wiki

"...SearchWiki can add another layer of complexity to digital marketing..."

The personalized search function will promote quality control in the digital space and marketers will be more inclined to provide quality content related to their optimized search keywords in hopes of achieving positive remarks. When combined with Google's data, Digital Marketers are left with a hybrid of social marketing and search engine marketing, or "social search marketing" and "social search optimization"
Steve Riegel, Director of Search at Faction Media, a digitally led marketing agency says,
"Overall, SearchWiki can add another layer of complexity to digital marketing, if fully implemented it will place an increased emphasis on Pay-Per-Click advertising to build brand awareness for new products."

Potential Issues With SearchWiki

Aside From Digital Marketers, How Well Will SearchWiki Be Adopted?

Adoption is a potential issue for those who are outside of the "in the knows" as the SearchWiki buttons blend into the background of the results page. Currently, Search Remarks have been limited on popular keywords such as "SEO", "American Idol" and "Real Estate." This may be a result of digital marketers testing SearchWiki out to see what it can do.
