Secular Progressive Test

Secular Progressive is a term coined by Fox News Commentator and best selling author Bill O'Reilly. His new book "Culture Warrior" defines the current struggle between traditionalists and SP's. It is a very clear battle line. I have come up with a list of questions that will clearly separate the Traditional thinking and SP thinking. Perhaps, you may think you are in one camp but may be more closely to the other or vice-versa. Take the test and add up your score.

SP test

This test consists of 20 questions. There are 3 possible answers (A, B or C). To score, added up your total: each A answers=1, B Answers=_1 and C Answers=0. The maximum score is 20 and the Minimum score is _20. Personally, I think these are very important issues and one should form an opinion after studying the facts. However, I do provide a pass to those that do not care on a particular issue with a (C) option.

Who are some SP's

Obviously, a score of near 20 is a Secular Progressive and a score of near _20 is a traditionalist. However, I do make another distinction. Agreeing with a policy is different than being an activist trying to influence policy. Some of you may agree with one or more of the issues but unless you are actively spending money or time to bring about the changes, you are not a true SP.

Here are some well know SP:
  • George Soros - He spent $20 Million dollars in the 2004 election to un-seat GW Bush.
  • Michael Moore.
  • Sean Penn.
  • ACLU
  • People for the American Way (PFAW)
  • Tide and Ford Foundation
  • Moveon.org
  • Media Matters

My personal opinion

I don't have any hard facts but from just my perception, I believe the country is divided 30% Conservative, 50% moderate and 20% Liberal/Progressive among the voting public. The main stream media (MSM) is 90% Liberal. I believe their influence has shifted the balance and created an almost 50/50 split in the voting public. Without their bias, the country would be 55/45.
Here are my estimate of some other groups that may have influence.

Supreme Court Judges (5/4).
Hollywood elites (10/90).
MSM (10/90).
College professors (20/80).
Talk Radio (90/10).

Final Remarks

I am a T-warrior. I think the majority of Americans are Traditionalists. We think the danger lies with apathy. History tells us the Roman Empire fell because of corruption and decadence from within. Our Judeo-Christian culture is under attack. We must be aware of what is going on if we are going to be prepared to defend it.

The traditional warrior's (T-Warrior) code of ethics is encapsulated by ten "pithy" principles (courtesy of Bill O'Reilly):

* Keep your promises
* Focus on other people, not yourself
* See the world the way it is, not the way you want it to be
* Understand and respect Judeo-Christian philosophy
* Respect the nobility of America
* Allow yourself to make fact-based judgments
* Respect and defend private property
* Develop mental toughness
* Defend the weak and vulnerable
* Engage the secular-progressive opposition in a straight-forward and honest manner

I find it so revealing our inane desire to encapsulate people in either group A, group B, or the undecided's. It's a "yea/nah" society. How seemingly absurd that "we" appear incapable of comprehension greater than "hot/cold, high/low, in/out, push/pull conservative/progressive." I'll grant O'reilly benefit of the doubt, but his "secular progressive" test does further illustrates this very point. Some of those questions are so slanted or poorly written that I tend to wonder if O'reilly had anything to do with them?

To illustrate, question 2 asks if (A) we need UN approval to attack another country or (B) should we have the "right" to protect ourselves? Answer isn't A or B and damned if you're undecided. Just cause a guy sneers at you in a bar, no reason to kick his ass!

Come on America, The decisions at hand will be made, better yet, should be made, by folks like you. Stop looking for the messiah and look in your own heart. The only one that can save you....is you!

You need to read my lens on "American Supremacy" for a better understanding of what I mean. It is in the "link section". This is not arrogance on my part.
Also, I disagree American was hated under Bush... That was the MSM spin. Ask yourself -Are the US better viewed in the eye of the world under Obama? Has this translated into any significant difference in world events? Not that I see.-Jack [in reply to Tasmanian American Perspective]

David, you miss-understood the term "no spin". No spin means not to slant the facts to get a better decision. It does not mean one should not hold an opinion on any subject. You need to read Bill's book "The O'Reilly Factor" for a more detailed explanation. -Jack [in reply to david nettleton]
