The 14th Annual Sedona Film Festival

The Sedona International Film Festival has been going strong since 1997. I can say honestly that it is one of the best things I have loved about living in Sedona.

The festival lasts for 5 days and features 125 independent films. Each year the festival presents superb and unique feature and documentary films, foreign films, animated films, and student films.

Viewers and film makers from around the world descend on Sedona for this great event. Several films featured at the Sedona Film Festival have gone on to receive Academy Award nominations.

The all time best part of the festival though just might be the Workshop part of the festival. The festival sponsors award winning filmmakers, teachers, actors, and screenwriters to provide the best interactive classes for all those interested in making films or just plain film buffs like me.

Great Celebs Expected To Attend

Among those who attended the film festival this year, actress/director Mary Stuart Masterson, actresses Mary Steenbergen and Kimberly Williams Paisley (Father of the Bride, According to Jim).

"I was surprised by the films I saw, this year's festival was actually better than it was last year!"

Exciting Changes Slated For 2008 Sedona Film Festival

For The Public's Viewing Pleasure

Several changes are in store for the 2008 event including scheduling a series of small workshops in the public pavilion "so the public can interact with filmmakers and learn about what it takes to create, market and distribute," said Sedona International Film Festival Executive Director Patrick Schweiss. "The Wells Fargo Pavilion was a tremendous success last year because it provided a great venue to learn, relax, mingle with others and discuss the incredible lineup of films. We plan to use it for even more events during the week this year."

Also new is the addition of another screening venue "to allow us to show the more popular films more often," Schweiss said of the auditorium at Sedona Red Rock High School, 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Road.

Fragile Machine Seen At The Sedona Film Festival

Winner of the 2005 Director's Choice: Best Animated Film

This is the story of a life lost and reborn, told without words .

This 2007 edition of director Ben Steele's philosophical convergence of CG visuals and electronic music has never been seen before. The previously released 30 minute version was named Best Animated Film of 2005 by cyberpunkreview.com, won the "Director's Choice: Best Animated Film" award at the Sedona Film Festival, and was given "Special Honors for Animation" at the Imaginaria fest in Italy and Taipei's Future Imprint fest. WFAC in Ontario and the Netherlands New Media fest have also exhibited the film.

Mr. Steele's digital art has also been exhibited in Tokyo, New York and LA by Canon, the National Museum of Art in Rome, the Biennal de Valencia in Spain, with fashion designer Thierry Mugler in Paris, at IdN's DesignEDGE in Singapore, with architect Will Bruder in the US, and with Penny Arcade as part of PAX2005.

The 30 minute version is available on DVD from fragilemachine.com. Ben is currently working on his debut feature film and can be contacted through aoineko.com
