I love this list. I think you should visit some places from Romania also. try to search "maramures" romanian place. Is a country place with a lot of quiet.

I was born in Sweden (my parents are both Americans) I traveled Europe for a few years, went to Asia and the US, but then went back to Europe in my teen years and that is what I remember the most. I loved it, and want to return as I feel like Europe is more my home.
  • Johnie Jan 24, 2011 @ 10:04 am | delete
    No place like Amsterdam!
  • organa Jan 24, 2011 @ 6:21 am | delete
Europe is indeed beautiful, but made even more so by your photos and videos! As an expat currently in Germany its hard to imagine going back to the US. The great advantage of living here is the travel. So much to see and its all within a relatively short distance. I travel as often as I can and hope to soon get my employers at http://www.hotel.info/ to pay for a trip around Europe and stay at some great hotels, perhaps as an undercover consumer advocate. I´ll keep you posted!

Some absolutely stunning places and pictures on this lens. I was fantasizing about leaving everything behind and going on a trip across Europe. I may not be able to do that right now but I am definitely going to check out a few of these amazing places.

    Fantastic lens!
  • najem Jan 21, 2011 @ 1:37 am | delete

I also love travelling, especially to Europe. So much to see and do. The key is not to try to see too much in too short a time. Also, if everyone says that a certain city/area is a "must see", but your heart's not in it, then choose where you are pulled to go.
  • theconditionpodcast Nov 17, 2010 @ 8:26 pm | delete
I would love to visit Meteora, thanks for including some more unusual places.
  • KDimmick Nov 16, 2010 @ 4:28 pm | delete

I go to Croatia pretty much every summer, and have been to Dubrovnik as well. It is BEAUTIFUL. I can recommend the Krka National Park (waterfalls and beautiful surroundings) as well, it is near Sibenic a bit further away from Dubrovnik.

When I was in Europe, it was a big deal to drive through East Germany... and I was hitch-hiking. It's wonderful to be able to travel so freely now. I picked Amsterdam over Berlin only because there were so many armies in Berlin in 1968, it took away from the ambience somewhat. Lovely pics, thanks.
  • scar4 Nov 6, 2010 @ 1:44 am | delete
Those pictures are gorgeous, my dream destination is Paris.
  • jolielaide75 Nov 4, 2010 @ 2:42 pm | delete
I've wanted to go to croatia for quite a while now. You've inspired me to make it a priority again. Great pictures too.
  • Ourvey Oct 30, 2010 @ 7:15 am | delete
Your pictures are stunning, I looked at the others on Flick'R. Brilliant!! I spend a lot of time in the Swiss alps and some of the small mountain villages haven't changed for 100's of years. For Skiing we like to stay away from the glamour of the big glitzy resorts and mingle with the really wealthy who do not want to show off. Veysonnaz in the 4 Vallees is a good example. www.ourveysonnaz.com.
  • GeoffSteen Oct 24, 2010 @ 2:09 pm | delete
I thought I knew Europe but I had NO idea about Meteora! I'd love to go one day. Thank you for such an inspiring lens.
  • LucyClaire Oct 21, 2010 @ 8:48 am | delete
Thanks for the lens. I live near Europe and your lens has inspired me to get going and do more traveling. The only place I have visited a lot is Switzerland.
  • MarkUpshaw Oct 18, 2010 @ 12:59 am | delete
With the American economy on the fritz, I have not left the country for more than a year. Ouch. And I don't have immediate plans to travel. This lens strengthens an itch that I will have to scratch sooner than later.
  • Blurasis Oct 17, 2010 @ 3:26 pm | delete
Excellent lens, hope to see these places one day.
  • FreebieChick Oct 15, 2010 @ 3:58 am | delete

I think Cinque Terre in Northern Italy is definitely a must-see but even more...it's a must do. THe feeling of accomplishment when you hit those high peaks, reach the low valleys...it's incredible. The views are indescribable...absolutely beautiful!

I'm was going to hit up the Plitvice Lakes in about 2 weeks from now, it will be the beginning of November...has anyone been around that time before? Should I go and check out the lakes during this time even though it is early winter there in Croatia? THanks, guys!
  • EmilineRed Oct 12, 2010 @ 8:40 pm | delete
Love your photo of the classic riverside homes in Amsterdam. I was there last august, and loved the laid back relaxed artistic attitude of the whole city. My trip to the Netherlands was sooo much more amazing then I had imagined.

Althouth there are some other great places in Europe in this case I would say that Rome is the best place to visit.

If you haven't seen Bled in Slovenia, you still havent seen the most beautiful part of Europe. A lake, a island, a church on the island, and a castle on the high rock. A must see.

Well, it seem that you know a lot about Croatia. Actually, I am planning a trip there for next summer. Do you think that the weather will be good? I have no idea about the cliamate. Which moth would you suggest me visit it?
The pfotos from Greece are breathtaking! I have been in Meteora and reality is much better than what a photo can capture. Check also my lens about the greek islands which is an amazing holiday destination.

I'm living in Belgium, and I have been to a lot of the surrounding countries on vacation and business, and I got to say that I really like Germany. It has a very rich history (world wars, the berlin wall, and offcourse the rich history of the medivials) Earlier this year I even started a small blog in Dutch around this beautiful country, if you want to pay it a visit you can find it on http://www.vakantiehuisduitsland.be. Although this is only suitable for Dutch speaking people.
    Regards.

I really enjoyed reading your list. I definitely would recommend Rome, there is just so much to see and do... and don't forget all the great food!
I'm also planning on going to Berlin and Zurich so thanks for the advice on how to get around. I think I'll rent a bike in Berlin (hope the weathers good!). If anyone is looking for cheap deals I would go check out http://www.netholidays.ca that's where I just booked my trip to Europe. Can't wait!

When I was about seventeen an adult friend of mine who had traveled around quite a bit, told me that when I do get around to traveling, Amsterdam should be the first on my list! Now I see why :) thanks for the pictures and the brief descriptions - makes me want to visit all these places. Plitvice looks beautiful ....

Very well done lens with brilliant photos.
Too bad my favourite place, Prague, is not listed.
Or my home, the Greek islands.
Europe is so full of great places!
  • topbeaches Jul 30, 2010 @ 11:00 pm | delete
There are two places i visited. Meteora with its great views from the monastery and of course Rome - the eternal city. Ha-ha i've actually lived there for 7 years and done some crazy things like sneaking inside the Roman Forum at night with a bunch of friends, even falling asleep up on the hill under mandarine trees. Rome is beautiful at night and i start to miss it now. So, Rome is my favorite!
  • loulouspankz Jul 28, 2010 @ 11:41 am | delete
wow. Croatia looks beautiful. I feel everyone experiences different things. I lived in Amsterdam for 6 years, and in the end totally hated it. A weekend is plenty. A very nice imformative peice, which must have taken a while to put together. I now live in Spain, in Andalucia, which is stunningly beautiful. A very nice place to visit.
  • mich1908 Jul 25, 2010 @ 6:11 am | delete
I wonder whether I will have a chance to visit any of those wonderful places mentioned. Such breath-taking sceneries amazed me! Thank you for the eye-opener.
  • Jul 24, 2010 @ 11:23 pm | delete
Oh my gosh, such a beautiful lens! The Plitvice lakes and Meteora, Greece, I've never even heard of, but now... oh yes, I want to see them with my own eyes. I've got a (comparatively) paltry little lens about Portugal, a couple about Japan that I will lensroll this to, but you've got a well deserved spot in the top 100 lenses. Congratulations for that, and thank you for creating this beautiful, stunning lens!
  • aston morgan Jul 22, 2010 @ 4:32 am | delete

What a great guide! You never really think of Croatia alongside places to go like Berlin or Rome, but you've shown that there's some great stuff to do!
  • martialartstraining Jul 12, 2010 @ 7:18 pm | delete
I had only heard of Amsterdam before from this list, for the life of me i cant see how all the other places arent flooded with tourists as well. Thank you for sharing.
  • SafeCard Jul 11, 2010 @ 2:12 pm | delete
Beautiful lens, I love Europe. And I agree that Amsterdam is a wonderful place, but I have felt that it gets ignored by people not looking specifically for its red light district. That is only a tiny section of the vast city. A couple of the other places you mentioned like Plitvice lakes and Meteora, I had never thought about visiting before. Thank you.
  • sharoncollinsr Jul 9, 2010 @ 4:54 am | delete
I love Dubrovnik and my answer is simple: nowhere did I experience such a feeling as when first catching the first glimp of the tremendous view over the city of Dubrovnik. Also tying to use Expedia coupon code to save my travel fares.
  • chic4sports92 Jul 6, 2010 @ 12:33 am | delete
Wow this is awesome! Thanks..I've been dreaming of visiting Europe and this gives me places to visit!
  • FlagAndMap Jun 30, 2010 @ 3:42 pm | delete
These are indeed great destinations. I voted Plitvice my favorite but looks like it's a hidden gem for most readers. It really is as beautiful as your photos suggest. Meteora would be my second recommendation - fascinating. Finally, don't waste time there shopping for souvenir t-shirts when you can buy one before you set off!
  • Rose4u Jun 24, 2010 @ 5:39 pm | delete
Wonderful places, but there is so much more you can see in Eorope, each Eoropean country is rich in history, nature and architectural masterpieces.
  • NickOng Jun 22, 2010 @ 10:36 pm | delete

Have been to several of those places! The pictures bring me back! Wish I was able to catch those beautiful images while I was there! You MUST go to Europe for at least 3 weeks and see all of these places....best thing I have ever done!
  • Insuredtraveller Jun 16, 2010 @ 9:35 pm | delete
I'd have to say Berlin is the best city I have ever been to. If I could get my hands on a European passport, I would be there tomorrow :)
  • Wolfy67 May 30, 2010 @ 9:42 am | delete
Dubrovnik is a beautiful place, but there is a very dark side to the city, this involves the kidnapping and murder of tourist, which has still not being solved, the police have been accused of covering this up to protect the tourism economy.
  • pinkrenegade May 26, 2010 @ 9:18 pm | delete
I haven't been there but this lens makes you to explore it
  • kohuether May 19, 2010 @ 8:08 am | delete
Very nice list - Those lakes in Croatia look outstanding and that huge rock in Meteora looks quite intriguing... definitely things to keep in mind for my next trip.

Wow, I must certainly go to Europe! The place is so romantic! Now if only I could set up my travel account.
  • AmericanDreamer Apr 25, 2010 @ 12:13 pm | delete
I love travel and I love Europe. I have only been able to go once before, due to situational stuff, but on that one trip I was able to go to many different countries and cities (it was a European capital cruise, after which we visited the British Isles quite a bit).

If there is one place that I advise anyone and everyone to go to, it is Ireland. I went to Belgium and Germany, Amsterdam and Oslo, but no where even compares to Ireland in my personal expirience. Not Northern Ireland either, but the area around Kilkenny, Dublin, ect. The old stone castles are amazing (not as sophisticated perhaps as the buildings in Rome or Meteora but increadible in their own, different way) and the countryside is beautiful without competition. I remember going to a little restaurant called the Circle of Friends in Kilkenny (actually it has been so long that I can't remember if it was in Kilkenny or just very close to Kilkenny) and then walking down to a river nearby. It was so clean and had so much liveliness. I regret ever leaving. The Blarny Castle and it's famous stone are indescribable and pictures do not do it any justice.

So yeah, if I were to add a location to this lens, it would definately be Ireland. Choosing a specific place in Ireland is hard as there is just so much and it is all outstanding. I would probably say Kilkenny (although Blarney Castle is not to be missed).

Either way, awesome lens. Once I am able, I will have to go to Plitvice and Meteora.
  • AmericanDreamer Apr 30, 2010 @ 2:36 pm | delete
I should note that, out of all of these, the only one that I have ever been to before is Amsterdam and I did like it very much. It was a lot of fun and I would gladly go back there if offered the chance. It was an excellent place to go to. But if you gave me the choice, I would MUCH rather go back to Kilkenny or Dublin.

These are such the hottest tourist destination on the earth.
In my opinion, India is also a great option for tourists. I have read a lot about this incredible country on traveler’s blogs. It has been a common practice that every year a large number of tourists search for cheap flights to India over the Internet.

Fantastic lens! The only one of these places that I (male) have been to is Berlin. While I can understand the attraction in general, when I was there late in 2007, there seemed to be construction going on everywhere and a lot of the beauty of the city was temporarily masked in this way.

Hope to see all of these places and more in my travels very soon.

Your lens is so beautiful, I want to go to all the places you've covered. What's great is not all of these places are "common" destinations. I love exporing what few people see, or at least "fewer" people see. Thank you for adding a few new destinations on my must-see list. I've favorited and top ranked your lens. I plan to return!

I have a lens which I hope will be of interest to those in the USA with family and friends living or travelling in Europe. This lens details how to select calling cards to make the most of yourmoney when you have to call someone overseas, and also tips for them calling you. The content is based on my personal experiences in finding the best and cheapest way to call my family back home in England.

It's called the Curonian Spit. It's in Lithuania, a small country on the coast of the Baltic Sea. It's absolutely AMAZING. Just do a search for "curonian spit" or "kursiu nerija" (I think) on Google or deviantart.com, and you'll see for yourself - it's well worth including on this great lens. JC
