This is a lens about a young man out to see what he can do for the world.  No, I can't cure cancer or eliminate famine or war, but I can tell you how to build a better website or fix your computer, or even the best way to make some extra gold in World of Wardraft.

This is a lens about me:  Matthew David Gowdy.

A Quick Synopsis of Me

The Story So Far...

I was born almost 22 years ago in upstate New York where I resided until I went away to college at Oneonta State in New York (200 miles away). Since then I have moved out west to Montana to pursue other opportunities.

I currently work at Staples as a sales associate and in-house computer technician.

I know, not the best job right out of the shoot, but we all have to begin somewhere, right?

Well, actually I didn't begin at Staples...

Employment History

Standard Stuff...

Here's a quick list of the places I've worked and what I've done.
  1. 1000 Islands Internet / Web Designer:
    - Responsible for designing, updating, and maintaining the company website as well as select web clients.
  2. IMC Consultants / Web Designer & PC Tech:
    - Built and ran FireFrost Media, the web design branch of the company as well as repaired all manner of personal computers.
  3. SUNY Oneonta / Helpdek Support Consultant:
    - Responsible for troubleshooting, fixing, and keeping appointments with roughly 2,000 plus student and faculty on campus.
  4. Staples / Sales Associate:
    - Salesman for the electronics department, computer guru, repair technician, and everything else that comes with the job.

A Little About My Pedigree

Experience, Training, That Sort of Stuff...

I have experience in both computer repair and web design as well as a bit of programming. I've found that experience and on the job training often overshadow formal training, though having a college degree does tend to open up doors.

Now, if only my college would let me get my degree...

Formal Education

Quick Summary

To highlight that I'm not a total dunce to the outside world, here's a quick rundown of my education.
  1. Highschool / Watertown High School
    - 3 Years. Transferred senior year to...
  2. Highschool / General Brown High School
    - 1 Year. Graduated with Regents Diploma.
  3. College / Jefferson Community College
    - 2 Years. Graduated with an Associates in Science for Computer Science. Found out later that my training at JCC was better than that offered by most colleges. Kind of odd when you think about it.
  4. College / SUNY Oneonta
    - 2 Years. 2 credits short of my Bachelors in Arts for Computer Art. While I've completed all of the training for the degree, the school runs a quota system, so hopefully within the next year, I'll have the paper.

I Was A Citizen Squid

How Do You, Uhh, Squidoo?

Yes, that's right, I was a Citizen Squid and for all intensive purposes, if you have any questions about the site, feel free to bring them to my attention.

I peruse the forums at SquidU when I can and otherwise try to keep up with the rapidly changing entity that is Squidoo.

In addition to helping people out, I currently run a couple of groups here on Squidoo. Technology, Webcomics, and hopefully at some point soon, Warcraft and Nintendo, to name a few.

Matt you look to be adjusting your new location, the degree is only useful if some one wants to see it. You work show your true worth. Good luck

Matthew - Your designs are amusing & clever as well as interesting. The lens is clever, unassuming and to the point (except the "degree" of whining.) As soon as you get your "paper" you will have to constantly prove it is more than "just paper". Chin up & head down big guy!
