What you need to know.

The Sega Saturn, released in Japan in 1994, is a powerhouse for 2d arcade gaming. It followed the Genesis, and took the world of console gaming to a new dimension (Literally). While its 3d games may seem somewhat outdated (There are still definitely some worth playing.), It's still your best bet for fighting games such as Street Fighter and Fatal Fury along with a host of others you may have never heard of. So if you enjoy these types of games, and do not have a Saturn, you're missing out on the best versions. The only legit ones in my humble opinion.

Didn't the Saturn flop though?

Do not let the American history of the Saturn shape the way you think about it. We all know the Playstation did better in the American market, and had more games released in the states. I am not advocating the American Saturn, I am talking about the real deal Japanese OG version. There are many games that never made it to American shores that are must haves for any gaming fan. As for the games that came out for both the Playstation and Saturn... 9 times out of 10 the Saturn version is superior. I don't mean to sound biased. There are plenty of good games that came out exclusively on the Playstation. I am not a Sega fan boy. It's true, 2d fighters are my kind of game, but that's by no means all the Saturn has to offer.

3 reasons the Saturn is a worthwhile investment for serious gamers.

If you like 2d fighters, or are a fan of 2d games in general, the Saturn may be what you have been looking for. Consider this...

1.) The hardware in the Saturn is made for handling beautifully detailed sprites, and the 4 mb ram expansion pack allows for perfect arcade ports with all the frames and fluidity of the cabinet.

2.) The Saturn controllers are made for 2d fighters with 3 punch buttons and 3 kick buttons, and from my personal experience feel the most natural.

3.) The Saturn came out in '94, and lived through the some of the best times for gaming. (Not to mention some of the best times for culture in general.) Capcom and SNK were still bangin out fresh hits in the arcades, and hadn't lost any steam. The Saturn was the premier console for arcade ports, and for this reason, still has a massive following in Japan to this day. Every worthwhile game is a work of art, from the cover of the manual, to the title screens, and gameplay.

Let the games begin.

Now, I haven't played every good game for the Saturn (or every bad one for that matter), but I have an extensive knowledge on the games I have played. As I continue my journey into the library of undiscovered gems in the world of Saturn imports, I will continue to enlighten curious minds to this forgotten realm. Care to join me?
