Selecting The Perfect 22 Inch Rims For Your Car Or Truck

Ranked #6,415 in Cars, #336,375 overall

If you have your heart set on a nice set of rims, choosing 22 inches rims for your car should be done carefully. Pimping your ride is possible, but it should be done correctly so you can enjoy your rims without damaging the vehicle. Read more to find out how to choose the best set of wheels and get a good deal.

Take a look around and you will notice custom rims have become popular. In fact, car manufacturers have taken this trend and started adding upscale wheels to newer models. This does not come without an additional cost, but you can purchase aftermarket rims on your own and save big.

Upgrading your current wheels two or three sizes looks pretty good, but a drastic increase will have a dramatic effect on your vehicle. Pulling up on 22's will let the world know you have arrived. Before making this major purchase, make sure your vehicle can withstand the extra weight.

What Now?

Should I Get 22's

Most people adding 22's to their vehicle are doing it for the look. You cannot deny that huge shiny chrome wheels are an eye catcher, but you must make sure your vehicle can accommodate such large wheels. What you see on the videos or at the car shows is just that - for show and not for daily driving. Larger vehicle may be able to take 22 inch rims without a problem; however, some vehicles will need to be altered to fit the large wheels. The first thing to know is the larger your rim, the smaller your tire must be. Low profile tires are more expensive and often result in a harder ride.

What Size Can I Go Up To

Depending on the type of vehicle you want to add rims to, going super large may not be possible. For instance, if you own a Ford Escort and you want to add 22 inch rims, that might look a bit ridiculous; however, if you have a mid to larger size car such as a Maxima or Buick Regal, 22's might sit just right.

Choosing The Right 22's

The bolt pattern varies on different makes and models. They generally have 4, 5 or 6 lugs. You can tell this when changing a tire by the number of lugs you have to take off. When purchasing rims, they should have the same number of lugs. Adding the wrong chrome wheels can be hazardous and some just will not fit.

The material your rims are made of will determine how much weight is added to the vehicle's suspension. Chrome rims are hot, but they are very heavy. Before purchasing chrome wheels make sure your vehicle can deal with the additional weight load. It may be necessary to make some changes to your suspension system to accommodate them.

Once you have made the decision to purchase 22 inch rims and tires for your vehicle, do some research so you can get the best deal for your money. When buying 22 inch car wheels plan to spend some money because they are not cheap, but you will definitely be the talk of the town with your shiny new wheels.

I agree that 22's on a Ford Escort would not look good, but the right rims and tires will make even an Escort look better!!
