Defending Against Frontal Grabs
Basic technique to defend against a frontal grab
Protect yourself against a frontal grab This article will teach you basic techniques to defend against a frontal grab.
What do you do if someone grabs you by the neckline of your shirt with one hand and starts to punch you with the other? We will assume that he/she is right handed for instructional purposes ok?
You are standing in a normal relaxed frontal posture and a guy reaches out and grabs a bunch of your shirt with his left hand, while drawing back his right hand to punch you.
1. You immediately "trap" his grabbing hand (shirt and all), clutching it firmly against your chest with both hands.
2. Next, step back slightly with your left leg which extends his grabbing arm, (this gets your face out of reach BTW), and at the same moment your left leg touches the ground, you twist your upper body toward the left and "look" down and to your left. The attacker's left arm is now stretched completely out and his elbow is either facing you or facing straight up. You can now release your right hand and swing it in a counter-clockwise motion over the top of the attacker's grabbing arm and easily peel him off. Run away and it's over!
3. You now also have the option of twisting further toward your left and torquing the attackers left wrist, elbow and shoulder (locking the joints). In this position, as above, your attacker finds him/her self even further extended and off balance. You can now simply raise your right elbow, (with the hands still clutching his "tightly" against your chest), and place it against the back of the attacker's extended left arm, and as above, "torque left" a bit which causes your elbow to injure or break the elbow of the grabbing arm, or more commonly, they'll usually just pancake face first into the ground. The attacker can be easily finished with a variety of kicks or grappling submissions, (but for our purposes), left on the ground as you beat a hasty retreat!
This is a "no-brainer", and a free technique (you're usually charged $$ for this info) that will never let you down...never! Don't think it's that easy? Print this out and get a partner and take turns practicing this. Do exactly what is presented and watch what is happening throughout. It will reveal any answers to questions you may have as you read this. Enjoy and play safely!

Defending Against Rear or Side Grabs
Part I: Defending Against the Rear Grab
Ordinarily, you will find yourself being grabbed and dragged backward by an assailant with either of his hands (depending), and having the other hand chambered to knock your head off. These grabs can be from strangers, ex-boy/girl friends, and various other irate people. They must be taken seriously and must be defended as such, due to your natural vulnerability from the rear. I'll share two variations of the same escape with you, it never fails to "peel them off".
You're standing in a line talking to the person in front of you when you feel a grab to the back of your shirt collar or the cloth on the shoulder portion. (it's hard to grab bare skin) Then you're hearing an attacker shout something like "who do you think you're talking to", or "move it pal, no cutting in line" for example. There is no choke, so there's no immediate need to shut down that attack, and we can focus strictly on the grab, and ascertaining the seriousness of the threat.

Latest Information on Crime Statistics and Self Defense
Self Defense for Women is a comprehensive informational blog, written to help those who may or have been, victimized by criminals. There's something here for everyone concerned about crime, self defense issues and self defense products. This blog has previously been about crime information and prevention. After much thought, I felt it would be nice to convert to a blog that offers self defense tips that are easy and simple to use.
It's my hope that women, who're the primary victims of crime and have the least amount of time and inclination to go out and learn to "beat people up," will be helped with some of the simple tips and tricks that I've amassed over 36 years of traditional martial arts training.

Top 3 Martial Arts for Women
Martial arts styles that are perfect for women to learn
Bruce Lee's style of martial arts is known as Jeet Kune Do, it combines the footwork and punches of boxing with lots of tricks pulled from other martial arts. The philosophy is to use 'whatever works' and is all about simplicity, speed and precision, it'll also teach you some basic grappling so you can still cause havoc if you get taken down to the floor in a fight.
2. Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a 'military hand to hand combat system' rather than being a traditional martial art. It's gained popularity over the last few years since it's become known that some of the Israeli Secret Service use it rather effectively. It aims to win the fight as quickly as possible using potentially crippling techniques and making use of any everyday objects you may have on you and nearby.
1. Wing Chun
Actually invented by a woman only a few hundred years ago, Wing Chun was taught by Grandmaster Yip man to Bruce Lee. A kind of 'scientific street-fighting', Wing Chun lends Jeet Kune Do lot of its principles (i.e. the simultaneous block and attack, the center-line theory). This is probably not surprising as Bruce Lee drew from its strengths when he was developing Jeet Kune Do.

- Thank you all!
Crime against women is a never-ending upward statistic. Today's woman lives in a world where anything goes. One can't turn on the TV set or read a newspaper without seeing new horrors perpetrated against women. We want to teach all people to defend themselves but women need our special attention. We recommend martial arts "seminars" and self defense products as tools for women who just can't find the time or have the inclination to get out and learn hardcore martial arts.
