How to Use Self Motivation Rewards to Reach Your Goals
It's done all the time in business as employers reward their employees with bonuses, trips and days off for a job well done.
Retail stores motivate their customers to shop with them by offering discounts and loyalty cards you get punched each time you buy something there with the promise of something free the next time you come it.
You may be familiar with the two types of motivation called Intrinsic and Extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is when a person is motivated from within him or herself.
They work on a task or project or to achieve a goal simply for the love of doing it. Extrinsic motivation is when a person works on a task or tries to reach a goal, but is rewarded when that goal or steps to that goal are reached.
Studies have shown that intrinsic is a better motivator than extrinsic but most of us are spoiled to the point of not doing something unless we're rewarded.
Motivation is a behavior you can influence to your advantage.
But realize that even a highly motivated person can get discouraged or tired of working on a task if he's not noticed and rewarded. People need to know they're appreciated and that their good work does not go unnoticed.
We're all different and all motivated by different things. What motivates you may not motivate your spouse or your boss.
It's a valued skill when you're able to match the type of motivation with the person to be motivated.
Try different things and when one doesn't work try another until the desired results are accomplished.
Employers do this all the time but many use fear motivation with the threat that you could lose your job if you don't do the work.
This is not a permanent solution and most companies who implement this kind of motivation experience a high rate of employee turnover.

Each day, a reader discovers a new characteristic of an unstoppable woman. And for inspiration, she'll read the true story of a woman who possesses this quality. She will then learn how to apply these skills to her own life-creating unstoppable success in just 30 days.
Writing about Kersey's bestselling first book, Unstoppable, Millard Fuller, founder and president of Habitat for Humanity International, said, "It will inspire you to live more passionately and pursue your heart's desire with more conviction. You'll discover how to break through obstacles and get what you want in life."
Unstoppable Women: Achieve Any Breakthrough Goal in 30 Days
Amazon Price: $3.01 (as of 06/03/2012)![]()
"Unstoppable Women" is an entire course of self-programing for goal achievement contained in a single book. It is a book of inspirational and motivational stories. It is an instructional manual in how to apply the inspiration and motivation to your own desires and goals. It is a workbook to guide you through a 30 day program of using the inspiration, motivation and instruction in an effective, structured way.
It is like having a life coach to carry around with you for a month.
I recommend the book for women only. Goal development methods and workbook-style teaching work for both genders, but the material is by a woman, about women and for women. However, Cynthia Kersey has an earlier version for both men and women called "Unstoppable." I haven't had the chance to read it yet, but have ordered it on the strength of my regard for "Unstoppable Women."
If you are a woman looking for great ideas on how to get out of your own way and start creating results, try this book.
Self Motivation To Reach Your Goals
If you're trying to lose weight for instance and your goal is to lose 10 pounds in 3 months, reward yourself for every milestone reached.
If you lost 3 pounds in the first month, celebrate by going to lunch with a friend or treat yourself to a pedicure. (Both men and women enjoy this.) Be happy with the reward and you'll start anticipating the loss of your next 3 or 4 pounds.
If you tend to cheat and find it difficult to stick to the rules, work with a friend who will keep track of your progress and administer the reward when they're earned.
Make the reward irresistible to you and make it worthwhile even though it doesn't have to be expensive.
The experience you associate with the reward is what will keep you motivated.
Self Motivation rewards work for almost any desired goal and can work wonders with children.
Remember to have your reward aligned with your goal and you're on the way to reaching your target with fun and anticipation.

Self Motivation To Reach Your Goals - Motivation and Personality
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
The level of motivation that a person has depends a lot on the personality of that person. If a person has the personality of a quiet, shy type of person, their motivation will come from living within that personality.
They are more likely to get motivated in different ways to that of a person who has a loud and bold personality. If a person has a go-getter personality then their motivation will be strong and vivacious, with a nothing can stop them type attitude.
Personality has a big impact on how we are motivated in our lives. Motivation and personality are definitely connected.
There are three basic personalities that seem to be motivation for what we do and who we want to become.
1. The need for power
This personality has a strong desire or drive to make people act or behave in a way that they would not otherwise behave.
This type of motivation is usually found in a strong-willed person. They like to be in charge of situations. The motivation is more for power and prestige than doing a great job.
2. Need for achievement
This type of personality has a strong drive to excel. This person usually strives to succeed at everything they try.
They avoid really hard tasks as well as really easy tasks. They like 50/50 odds and are not gamblers. The motivation is to achieve it on their own with their own skills.
3. Need for affiliation
This type of personality has the need for strong interpersonal relationships with others. This person is usually a soft-spoken quiet individual.
This person strives for friendships. The motivation for this personality is being cooperative rather than being competitive. They seek mutual understanding.
There are also combination's of one or more of these types of personalities, as well. They determine what motivates a person to do the things that they want and need to do.
Whichever personality a person possesses, they need to start with goal setting to achieve motivation. The first step is setting goals that are realistic to your specific needs and wants.
Try not to set these goals too high, nor too low. Either one of these will cause undesirable results. The goals must be possible to attain or they are useless to us. This step is essential to motivation. You can't be motivated if you do not have goals.
Rewarding yourself for your hard work and effort is another essential part of learning motivation. There must be rewards for a job well done. It is what keeps us going.
Motivation and personality do go hand in hand. As you can see, different people and personalities are motivated by different drives. Successes are measured by different motivations and rewards.
