Stop reading the self motivation books & take some action!

You've read enough books on self motivation! One self motivation book can be enough (well, the right one for you). How do you know it's the right one? Try it on, move around in it, see where it rubs, see where it hangs perfectly. If you don't try it on ... and just read, and read ... well no amount of motivating talk will help you. Unless you take action, and do it ... nothing is going to change, it's simply all going to stay the same.

How many times do you need to try on some new motivations? Till you've discovered and devised your own unique one ... and then you'll want to keep customising it along the roads.

Here are some self motivation tools to try on ...

Self Motivation Skills Checklist - 7 Simple Exercises for Developing Greater Motivation ... part one

4 self-motivation skills you want to get using ...

When you are properly motivated to do something, chances are it gets done. We've all made the claim that we're going to start on something difficult, like dieting, tomorrow, because that's not now. Deep down, we don't really want to give up on the food and indulgences that we've enjoyed, so tomorrow is always a better day to do it. In the seven following steps, you will learn how to keep your self-motivation levels high so that you can better accomplish your goals.

Step #1: Prepare for the inevitable. If you take a few minutes before you go to bed and create a list for yourself of things you want to accomplish the following day, you will be able to organize your time better and allow time for everything that needs to be done. In the creation of your list, be sure to place emphasis on the things that NEED to be done rather than the things that you want to do.

Step #2: Creating a list is a wonderful start, but it is only a list of intentions. When you wake up and start your day, you must again look at your list and use it in the planning of your day. Be sure to focus on getting the most difficult tasks done first. That way, they will be done and over with early and you can focus your time on the tasks that are easier and probably more enjoyable to do.

Step #3: Think back about the things that used to motivate you and try to incorporate those into your day. If something motivated you in the past to get things done, chances are it will still provide that same motivation, try to use that to help you stay motivated and focused on completing the job at hand.

Step #4: Treat yourself for acomplished tasks. When you complete something, be sure to reward yourself for it. Even a five minute sit down break can be a reward. Get creative in the things that you can do to reward yourself for staying motivated.

Self motivation steps 5 to 7 to build self confidence & productivity ...

Step #5: Don't allow yourself to get distracted. If you know that having the television on while you try to get something done will only draw you to watch television, determine to keep it turned off. If you never allow yourself the distraction, it can no longer be a distraction. Avoid any type of thing that will throw you off track. Your goal is to stay with your list until everything on it is complete; don't allow anything to get in the way of that.

Step #6: If you're tempted to do something that's not on your list, think about whether or not this will help you accomplish your goals, then decide if it's still a worthwhile activity.

Step #7: When the day is done and your list is complete, give yourself a small celebration. Take pride in the fact that you stayed motivated and accomplished your list. Then start on your list for tomorrow.

With these seven steps you should see your own productivity become greater and stronger. Realize that you won't be able to change everything in one day, but the daily steps you take will get you to where you want to be. Stay on track and focused and you'll see just how effective you will become. Take pride in the small steps you take as you take them and know they are leading to stronger, more confident you.

Self Motivation Quotes ...

Okay ... sometimes a good motivational quote is needed:

  • "The best motivation is self-motivation. The guy says, I wish someone would come by and turn me on. What if they don't show up? You've got to have a better plan for your life than that."
    Jim Rohn
  • "Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."
    Earl Nightingale
  • "When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal."
    Napoleon Hill
  • "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."
    Confucius
  • "Keys to success... Research your idea, Plan for success, Expect success, & just plain do it! It amazes me how many people skip the last step! Practice being a "doer" and success will follow you every step of the way!"
    Josh S. Hinds
  • "There is one quality that one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it."
    Napoleon Hill
  • "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined."
    Henry David Thoreau
  • "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."
    Martin Luther King, Jr.

Forget Overcoming Procrastination - Use Self Motivation For Sidestepping It ... part one

If you're a procrastinator, chances are that will be something that often gets in your way. You'd like to change it, but you're waiting until somebody or something forces you to, which is the way that most procrastinators work. You can't change who you are, but you can change the way that you look at things and how that perception will affect what you do.

Many procrastinators do things only when the guilt of not doing them finally overtakes them. Everyone knows that there are consequences to everyone's actions, and many people will think of the negative consequences that result in not doing something and this is what spurs them into action. If you change your perspective and focus on the positive instead you will have a much better chance of staying motivated to do the things required to get the desired results.

For example, if you're trying to stay motivated to lose weight, instead of focusing on the work involved in exercise or the bland foods often included in diets, focus on the important rewards when you've obtained your goal. Not only will you be a skinnier version of yourself, but you'll be much healthier as well. Focus on the positives in order to negotiate your way through the negative.

Following are three tools to overcome or get around the procrastination:

Step #1: Change the way that you are viewing your tasks. Take a minute to think about the task and sort it out in your mind. What exactly do you have to do and how do you feel about it? How do you feel about the task? Describe in detail to yourself what you have to do. Once you've really worked out your feelings about your task, try to change the way that you're looking at it. If you're currently thinking of the task as a burden that you have to take on, change your perspective to think about the positive impact it will have when it's accomplished. It can be something as small as, "If I pay the electric bill, I'll have light in my home." That's taking something that's often seen as a burden and focusing on the positive results from accomplishing the task.

How Many Self Motivation Articles Do You Have To Read Before You Get It?

You've done a lot of reading on self motivation. All of the books and articles have given their advice, many of which had some really helpful tips. Yet, you are still stuck at the beginning with no place to go and no way to go forward. Why is this? Well, without being too unfriendly, how many of these strategies have you attempted? How much time has been spent reading and planning versus time spent doing? How often have you said to yourself after reading a book or article, "Yeah, those sound like great ideas but they won't work for me because .............. (fill in your own excuses)?" It's time to set that all aside and get started on your action, not the plan, you've spent enough time on that, it's time to "do."

Here are four tips that you can use to get yourself started:

Tip #1: Do it. Planning is all well and good, but it involves no risk. Now is the time to stick your neck out there and do some of the things that you've read about. This is the only way that you'll be able to start discovering what will and will not work for you.

Tip #2: Get yourself in the mode. You know the one where you're no longer thinking about what you're doing. You're simply doing and assessing the results. Like when you turn on the radio and play "Walking on Sunshine" and dance around while you clean the house. Get that kind of energy and mood and go about the tasks that you've assigned yourself.

Tip #3: If you find yourself stuck, leave. Actually, physically, stop what you're doing, which isn't much anyway if you're stuck, go somewhere, perhaps to lunch, and think about your next move forward. Often leaving a stressful situation will be enough to allow your mind some freedom and creativity.

Tip #4: Take your overburdening, laborious task, and break it down into smaller, more manageable pieces. If you're taking on the task of sitting down and finally writing your novel, write one chapter at a time instead of the whole book all at once. You'll find it a much easier and less daunting task.

The old adage, "You can't do the same thing and expect different results" may fit here. You've done nothing up until now. You're continuing to do nothing, though it seems as though you're planning for something. Plans will only get you so far, if you want to see changes, you have to start that process through action. As soon as you begin doing you will start seeing results, but nothing will change if all you do is plan.

Step #2: Change your direction. However you were intending to accomplish your task consider doing it a different way. If you're intending to change your eating habits instead of saying, "from now on I cut out all sugar, I don't care how much I like cookies," change this to, "from now on, I will limit myself to one cookie each day." No longer is this a burden that you have to bear, it is now a change in lifestyle that is possible to accomplish. You are not telling yourself "never", which will almost certainly fail; you are telling yourself "moderation", which is a much better idea.

Step #3: Identify your self-made obstacles and create ways to overcome them. As stated earlier, take the things that are standing in your way and rearrange them to fit into your goals.

The way that you see your goals can often be exactly what stands in the way of accomplishing them. Change your perception and your plan of attack and you'll see your goals begin to be realized. Do not dwell on past failures; create a new plan for the future and stick to it.

You are so right not enough emphasis is put on taking action. Its not writing down goals and drafting action plans that get results its getting off the couch and going and doing something. Doing anything is better than nothing even if its wrong you will learn.

Achieve More by Doing Less?

Sometimes your self-motivation can just be to focused on one objective, and you can't "see the wood for the trees"

The modern world moves so fast that it can be hard to keep up. A lot of us find ourselves procrastinating because we don't have the time or energy to make sure we get things done. Of course, if we are never able to get to the tasks that will really make a difference in our lives, we can find ourselves growing stagnant. If you feel like you're running in place, you may need to make a change.

A basic principle used in business can apply here. It's called the 80/20 rule. You should expect to get eighty percent of your results from twenty percent of your effort. This means that eighty percent of sales come from the best small group of customers, and that the first twenty percent of the time you know someone will tell you about eighty percent of their personality. The first twenty percent of your personal development will give you the most reward if you're trying to improve yourself.

The big difference between the people who just do okay and those who excel in their fields is the correct application of effort. The other side of the 80/20 equation says that the majority of business is done by the small number of people who are the best at their jobs. This means that twenty percent of all doctors get eighty percent of the business, and that the best twenty percent of musical performers get eighty percent of the fans. This means that if you want to achieve the best results, you must be the best at what you do.

This requires the dedication to become the best, and it can work because most people are just coasting along. You'll have a better chance of succeeding because you've invested the time to hone your skills. Committing to personal development can help you to really change your life, instead of putting it off until later.

People who have lesser skills than the top twenty percent in a field still get some of the action, of course. The top twenty percent get eighty percent of the business, but that still leaves twenty percent for the rest. However, that's a lot to share - for every single customer a business in the bottom eighty percent receives, someone in the top twenty percent gets sixteen customers.

Achieve More by Doing Less? Part Two ...

It has been argued that the top twenty percent got into their position because of good financial backing, from friends or investors. This argument says that the money helped to pay for advertising, inventory, and the payroll to get good employees. However, there had to be some sort of basis for the investors to choose those companies rather than other ones.

Someone with ten million dollars to invest, and two possible business partners, each asking for help getting a business launched has a difficult decision to make. They will, of course, choose the business that they think is most likely to make it in the long run. This is probably determined by assessing the skills of the person who wants to get that business off the ground. This means that the best twenty percent of business partners trying to start a new business will receive eighty percent of available business capital.

Moving away from the business world, we can apply the 80/20 rule to relationships as well. Some couples are clearly happier than others. There are many different influences on this, of course. They include interests in common, personality compatibility, amount of personal attractiveness, and many others. However, in many people's relationships, the final word is that the partners in it have learned to cooperate and communicate properly. They are successful because of their well developed skills at being in a relationship together.

People with the best skills at managing a relationship have the happiest partnerships. The 80/20 rule still applies. Of course, the percentages will never quite be exactly eighty percent and twenty percent, but the ratios are merely a rule of thumb. It's the basic principle that's important.

Generally, most people know this fact. The better someone is at what they do, the better the return. However, but people are not aware that when you're very skilled, you don't have to put as much effort to get the same results. Some people can work five hours a week, but make the same money as a less skilled person who's working forty.

Likewise, people who are skilled in working out relationship problems won't have to spend long periods of time doing so. They can have the problem solved in a few days and go back to enjoying the company of their partner. Developing the right skills can help important people in your life notice you.

Achieve More by Doing Less? Part Three

Personal development is a matter of commitment, devoting the time and energy needed to make the difference. However, when you have the needed skills, you can change your life more efficiently than you could have before, and stop running in place. By becoming very good at whatever you need to be able to do to make the right changes in your life, you can make them with much less effort. Stop doing eighty percent of the work to achieve twenty percent of the results. Improve your skills and reverse the equation. Get more with less work.

Do you ever have difficulty focusing? Does it seem that there are so many things around you that you miss because you can't keep track of it all? Do you have problems remembering things? Are your visualizations fuzzy and unclear? I've seen a lot of pills and herbal products that are supposed to help with focus and memory, but they only provide a temporary boost, nothing permanent. And do you want to depend on chemicals for the rest of your life?

Building mental skills is much like building muscles. You candevelop greater strength by doing proper exercise, whether it's physical strength or mental strength.
