Need for Self Defense

There are many situations that can erupt in instant rage, where a person may be compelled to take an immediate defensive stance or be in a position to utilize self-defense. There could be a traffic confrontation or a violent situation with a spouse or a boyfriend. These are just two examples of scenarios that may urge the need for martial arts or self defense training. More and more occurrences of violence are becoming routine, a part of life. Avoiding the problem doesn't make it go away, because the fact of the matter is that the society in which we live is becoming increasingly violent.

This is a valid question, one that has possibly already been asked by you. Consider self-defense as an option. Self-defense can come in a number of different ways: home protection (electronics, surveillance and alarm systems), martial arts or some form of tactical training. You, as a human being, have a right to live your life free from harm. You don't have to be a victim of someone else's failure to control his temper or impulses. It is each individual's choice to do something about it. Many people are of the opinion that it takes a long time and a major investment to learn self-defense. Martial arts are one option that may actually take a long time to master, but there is one style that is recommended by Captain Chris; that style is Closed Combat Training.

There are three aspects to self-defense:

Self-defense techniques, training styles and the approaches to implement them

1) Self-defense techniques refer to the ways that a person disarms that aggressor. This can mean punches or jabs to vulnerable areas. It can include certain types of martial arts techniques.
2) The training styles refer to the means of understanding each tactic. This can include knowledge and practice of certain techniques.
3) Approaches refer to the many tactics involved in making the techniques work as a benefit; in other words, the plan.

Combination of any two aspects is incomplete without the third

Two of the aspects will not work successfully without the third-A good strategy paired with different styles or practice without technique will not work in mastering anything. A good self-defense or martial arts technique paired with a good training style without a plan will be useless in countering any attack. Finally, A self-defense technique paired with a plan without any training style will render the plan completely pointless, as no practice will lead to lack of knowledge and experience.

Be Mentally Prepared

Captain Chris suggests that in order to be successful with self-defense, it is vital that an individual be focused on what is going on around him/her and also being prepared or ready for anything. If a person doesn't understand all of the possibilities or outcomes, he/she won't understand how to react to them. Being mentally ready means to repeat different situations in the mind, to understand them from beginning to end; otherwise, then an individual may "freeze" both mentally and physically when the time for action is upon that person. Mindset is all important-Captain Chris emphasizes mental preparedness.
