I will have to send my son here for info. He is wanting to sell his art online. :)

As an artist myself...I have tried etsy, and didn't find it very helpful at all. It's more for crafters than it is for painting. I've had more luck using social networking sites to sell than etsy or a printing site. If you're interested in joining some other community sites there is Deviantart, but I would stay away from the forums as it is dominated by kids/teens. Also have you heard of Ovation? It's an arts channel and they have an artist community. Artsfire is similar to etsy.

This is an excellent lens especially for beginning artists wanting to sell their hard won artwork. It does get a bit dizzying starting out and I'm sure your help here in focusing down will be most helpful

This seems like a very useful site for artists. Would this also apply to people who sell handcrafted sewn or crocheted items? If so I have a few people I will need to send a link for them to see this lens!

    Great lens. God bless!
  • Flameheart Mar 31, 2012 @ 7:42 pm | delete
This was so helpful. Thank You! I am a young artist trying different approaches to selling art (both design-like art and painting and photography). So far, it's word of mouth and through blogging and zazzle that I'm promoting my designs.

Networking with other creative people is definitely the most effective way to get by in the art world.

Thanks for this valuable info. My favorite art sales portal is www.FineArtAmerica.com, which you discussed. Been with them for years and they do a great job with my digital art.
