More people are moving away from estate agents and looking for a faster way to sell their houses in the UK according to a survey carried out by Alliance and Leicester in May 2007.
Alliance and Leicester found sellers who sell privately, sell in an average of less than 2 months, compared to longer periods for those who use more traditional methods.
A spokesperson for A&L said "Using an Estate Agent to sell your home is generally viewed as part and parcel of the moving process, but the research suggests that DIY methods, to sell a home, are becoming more popular."
Advertising privately is a popular option with people advertising in local newspapers creating their own sales boards or utilising online property websites and portals
Some people are even turning to online auction sites like ebay, but generally the quickest and easiest option is to sell your house for cash to a private investor who can usually buy within just a few weeks, or sometimes days, removing the barrier of long buyer chains, sales boards and hoards of viewers trampling through your home.
There are some who will also cover your legal fees, with a free valuation, so with no agency fees this allows people to sell, without first, having to raise cash for the sale. The good ones will also offer sellers the option of renting back their properties, which benefits people who don't want to move but find themselves in financial difficulties, with debt or mortgage arrears facing re-possession. This on occasions can come with a 'buy back' option allowing sellers to buy back their home when in a better financial position to do so.
Sellers who have inherited properties or have divorced/split from their partner or just want a discreet confidential sale will also benefit from this type of sale and even landlords or people with properties in a poor condition are turning to private investors to sell their properties quickly.
Selling privately appears to be a faster and cheaper alternative to using an estate agent, making it a far more attractive proposition to sell your property.
