So you want to sell software online?

You've done the research, written the code, debugged and trialled with your users and now you're ready to sell your software online.

Here's some of what we've learnt while we've been doing just that.

Online Sales Processing

How to get paid for your software licenses

You can do it manually, get people to order online and you email yourself the order. Insecure and with time delays.

Or you can go for the straight payment processing where you pay for the customer to be processed. There will normally be a fully customised page to look like you are still on your own site.

And, since you're selling software, you have another option of joining the big affiliate groups and selling your software through them - and through any of the affiliates who choose to sell your product too. You have to pay fees for the processing and fees to the affiliates but you're selling product and that's a good thing, right?

Both online options will come with delayed payments to you, fees for each payment and a threshold for when payments are made. Refunds will be managed by them and your right to object may be severely curtailed - and you have to pay back the full amount, while still incurring fees - you end up out of pocket. In 6 years we've only had problems from a handful of customers, so hopefully it won't be a big problem.

Check the lists below for some of the options...

  • 2checkout
  • Ccavenue
  • regsoft
  • Yahoo Store has a monthly fee and is pricey but you'd have to figure that it would be secure and stable.
