What is the biggest challenge to your skin care business?
Selling skin care products can be difficult, especially in a slowing economy. Let's learn what challenges we have an how we can best combat them together!
7 Steps To Selling Skin Care Products Successfully
With new tools like email and the internet at your disposal, you can build your business faster and make sales easier. All you have to do is try.
Step 1 - Learn About Your Products and Company
To sell skin care products and recruit successfully, you really need to be well informed about your company. After you sign up, go online and see what trainings and resources are available online. Most companies start counting your sales from the day you sign up, not the day you receive your kit, so it's a good idea to start learning everything you can before your showcase even arrives.
Knowing about the products, the company history, and the marketing plan will make you appear more informed and educated to your clients.
Step 2 - Get Your Business Organized
Organization is extremely important when selling anything out of your home. When you get your kit, go through it and familiarize yourself with everything. If there are things you don't want to use - throw them away! There is no sense keeping 30 makeup charts if you don't plan on selling the cosmetics.
Start a spreadsheet on your computer and begin keeping up with the expenses and profits of your business. This will be really helpful for staying out of debt and always making sure your business is making money.
Open a gmail account just for your business. Start saving every email you receive: customer orders, company newsletters, etc. Gmail is the best because it can really filter out the SPAM.
Also open a database file and enter in every sale as they come in. You don't need to be super detailed with this - just record the customer's full name, email, and date she ordered last.
If there is ever a problem: missing order, broken product, etc. you can easily look up the date the order was placed and then look up the order record in your email account. Keep all these files organized in a folder on your computer so they're easy to find when you need them.
Step 3 - Investigate Your Company Policies
We're getting close to learning more about actually selling skin care products on the internet! But first you've got to check with your company to see what is allowed in regards to internet marketing. Some companies, like Mary Kay, don't allow the products to be marketed on the internet.
Other companies expressly prohibit the use of their name and logo without their permission. In this situation it helps to go directly to the head of the company and just ask "Is it okay to market these products on the internet?"
Don't allow the company reps to steer you away from this question or dissuade you. Make them give you a clear "yes" or "no" on internet marketing.
If internet marketing is not allowed with your company, don't despair! You can still use the internet as a useful tool for your business.
Step 4 - Create A Business Plan
How much money do you want to make? When do you want to move up in your company? How much time do you have to put into this business? These are all good questions to ask yourself when creating your business plan. You don't need to have everything totally set in stone (flexibility is good), but it's nice to have at least an idea of what you want and when.
Don't get too caught up in goal setting or planning. Ultimately the only way to sell anything is to actually sell - not plan your business so much you never get around to anything else.
Step 5 - Write a Prospect List
Even though you're planning on being a super successful internet marketer, you still need to write a prospect list.Internet marketing takes time. It could take 3 months before you're pulling in steady traffic and making regular sales. What will you do in the meantime?
I find that it also helps to practice talking about your products and answering questions. Having some experience helping customers will really help later when you're trying to assist them by email.
Most companies also hold special promotions in your first three months as a Consultant. Wouldn't you like to earn all the free products, supplies, and gifts? Write that prospect list and start talking to the people you see on a regular basis.
Sales will start coming in so long as you work hard and try it!
Step 6 - Learn to Email Prospects Effectively
You can spend 4 hours on the phone or 1 hour writing emails - which would you rather like to do?Emails of course!
But there's an even easier way to use email that will fully automate your business. Imagine doing one hour of follow-up emails, and then never having to write out that email again.
Autoresponders are systems that send prewritten emails out to your customer list at specific intervals.
Let's say you have a new prospect that you met at the grocery store. She wasn't comfortable giving you her phone number, but she was okay sharing her email address.
You load her into the autoresponder and she will receive an email that day, another in two days, a third the day after, and so on. You can design these emails so that they look like they're individually written by you.
This is an excellent way to followup with your customers and prospects because it's not interrupting them at home. If they have a question or need help, you're just an email away.
There are several autoresponder systems available. I personally recommend Aweber autoresponders because they actually get delivered into the customer's inbox.
Step 7 - Sell Skin Care Samples on a Blog or Website
You're really lucky if your skin care company has a good sampling program set up like my company.L'Bri offers a sample pack of 6 products, plus information, all packed in a clear vinyl bag for $5.75. Consultants don't have to pay for a thing - the company packs and ships the samples directly to your customer.
If your company offers something similar, you should definitely start promoting it! Selling samples, then following up with those customers with information and instructions, is one of the best ways to build a good customer base on the internet.
Many companies use flashy marketing and hot models to sell the products. Instead of relying on those gimmicks, allow customers to actually try the products. If the products are good enough, customers will like trying them and order larger sizes.
I built my whole customer base off of selling samples and following up with customers online. It's an easy way to build your skin care business quickly online.
