Sempervivums are these very cool ancient succulents (like a cactus without the thorns) that are generally rosette shaped.  As they grow that have "chicks" which are the little babies that form off of the mother plant (the hen).  They are super easy to care for, and have great color year round.  Since they generally produce 5 or more "chicks" per "hen" and on top of that they are extremely tough and resistant plants, you can understand how they got their name, which means "forever alive" in Latin.

Facts About Sempervivums
