Send Anonymous Email with SilentSender.com

Anonymous email is all the rage today. Whatever your reason may be- you are probably reading this because you want to know how to safely and securely send anonymous email. Full disclosure: I use this site often and was involved in its creation. It was created in a way which is meant to be practical, safe and useful. It is not intended to be used for cyber-bullying or criminal activity. Safeguards are in place to prevent abuse.

Anonymous Email

Keeping it simple

I am not going to explore all the reasons why someone would want to send anonymous email; if you would like to learn more about that topic you can read the lenes that cover that topic and are attached to this lens. In this quick guide, we are going to cover how to send anonymous email from one particular website. The name of the site is SilentSender.com . There other websites that claim to be able to accomplish this feat. This lens will not editorialize or comment on which site is better or worse. However, there are three features of an anonymous email service you should look for.

1. SSL Encryption on the page where the message function exists in order to secure the information between you and your computer. (the address bar will turn blue or green, and the padlock will appear closed when connected to the site)

2. The website is hosted in the USA and you are using America servers. The reason being: a lot of foreign hosting environments are not secure and may pose a threat in the form of malware, spyware, viruses and identity theft. If you are purchasing some form of anonymity service, you would want your personal information on an American server, not somewhere in the far East. (Remember "Peggy" from US Prime Credit?)

3. Look for a service that allows you to send anonymous email without using your email. Also, read the privacy agreement and terms of service and make sure they aren't using your personal information or tracking cookies for their own advertising efforts. Many of these sites are full of advertising schemes, which are their primary sources of revenue.

Ok, shall we get started?

Arriving at SilentSender.com homepage.

Send anonymous email.

After typing www.silentsender.com into your address bar you will arrive at the main landing page for the website. You will notice that your address bar will turn blue or green, ensuring a secure, encrypted connection between your computer and the website.

Next, simply enter the email address of the person you want to send the message to. You are limited to 160 characters so keep it short and sweet. Most anonymous email is comprised of a quick statement or fact, not a life story. If you are interested in writing a long letter, and even attaching pictures, there is an option to do so by using the anonymous letter service.

The next step is to craft your brief message. Again, less than 160 characters. If you want to remain truly anonymous, I would suggest being aware of your writing style. Don't write in a manner that someone would be familiar with. Use full words and not abbreviations. Avoid using contractions and web speak. If you communicate your message in a style your typically write in while using IM, texting, etc., the person may be able to guess who you are.

After your message is complete, read and click the Terms of Service agreement box. I suggest you read the terms. You may not use this website for cyber-bullying or to conduct criminal activity. SilentSender.com does not keep your message, or read them. But if the police come knocking because you thought it would be funny to call in a bomb threat- they will cooperate.

Now you will need to enter the anti-SPAM verification code. This simply keeps spammers and spam bots from using the service to send out blanket email and spam.

Then click 'send message'! Your done. Your message is now flying through cyber-space and should arrive within a minute or two. My suggestion is that you try the service out on yourself first to see how it looks from the other end; when the recipient receives their notification that a message is waiting for them to be picked up.

Receiving a notification email from SilentSender.com

Understanding the notification.

What the notification email looks like.

For the recipient, picking up the message is quite straight forward. The recipient will receive an email from Silent Sender that will contain a unique message tracking number. This number is generated only for the message that is being held for them in the encrypted database. The recipient can either return to the website and input the number manually or they can click on the link in the email and be automatically returned to the website with their tracking number. The actual message you are trying to relay is not sent to the recipient, it is held on the server until they come and pick it up. This ensures there are safeguards against unwanted spamming and cyber-bullying. The recipient can choose to ignore the message and it will be automatically deleted in 7 days. Or, they can automatically blacklist themselves, preventing any additional notification emails to be sent to them.

Retrieving the message

Reading your anonymous message

Picking up the message itself is very quick and easy. If you returned to Silent Sender via the quick link in your email, you will find the tracking number has been automatically typed into the field for you. If you came back to the site manually with your tracking number, you will have to enter it now. Next, simply click the Terms of Service box and then 'get message'

Your message should be displayed in the message box. It is important to note, once the message is displayed it cannot be retrieved again. This is to protect all parties. Your unique tracking number will not be able to retrieve the message at any point in the future.
