Why You Should Send Thanksgiving Flowers
Send Thanksgiving Flowers: Thanks, Love, Appreciation
But autumn 1621 saw the first harvest, and a bountiful harvest it was! To celebrate, the remaining colonists - along with the Native American Indians who helped them get through that first arduous year - had a huge feast.
It lasted three days and consisted of geese, wild ducks, fish, venison, pumpkin (boiled), dried fruits, and a variety of berries. Historians are uncertain whether wild turkey was included in the feast because the term "turkey" was used by the Pilgrims to mean any type of wild fowl.
And so went the first "Thanksgiving". But such a celebration did not become a yearly event until 1863. A magazine editor named Sara Josepha Hale is the "creator" of the celebration we now know today as Thanksgiving.
What's more, Sara Hale pressed President Abraham Lincoln to declare the final Thursday of each November as day of prayer and national thanksgiving. Thus, Thanksgiving Day as an annual holiday was born.
These days, we think of Thanksgiving Day as a traditional day of gathering with family and friends, parades, watching football, and feasting on a huge meal of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and a host of other scrumptions foods! It's our modern-day way of giving thanks for all that we have each year.
Send your loved ones a message of thanks and send them some Thanksgiving flowers!
