New Ideas for an Older California
The Center for Civic Partnerships has just released a new policy brief, "A Healthy Community Perspective on Aging Well: New Ideas for an Older California," featuring promising practices, strategies and resources that communities can use to improve the health and quality of life of older adults. Following an extensive review of the literature and interviews with nationally recognized programs, the brief opens with a "call to action" and features six case studies and a list of 35 strategies that community leaders and their partners can begin to work on immediately. Strategies focus on six thematic areas: Community Involvement, Varied Housing Options, Transportation, Employment, Lifelong Learning, and Supportive Services. An advisory group of state and national experts also contributed to the development of the brief.A downloadable pdf, an expanded resource section, and a list of contributors is available on the Center's website (www.civicpartnerships.org).

Medicare Drug Prescription Plan - The Alaska SeniorCare Program provides financial assistance to qualifying seniors, augmenting the new Medicare drug plan. The SeniorCare cash assistance of $120 a month continues for seniors with incomes below $16,133 for individuals, or $21,641 for couples, with liquid assets of up to $6,000 for an individual and $9,000 for a couple. The Medicare prescription drug program will cover premiums and deductibles for these seniors.

CALIFORNIA - Senior Citizen Discounts
California State Parks - Senior Discounts and PassesFor persons 62 years of age or older. Proof of age based on California Driver License or other identification card. Permits year-round $1.00 discount for vehicle parking and a $2.00 discount for family camping in state-operated parks. The discount does not apply to fees under $2.00 or supplementary fees, and cannot be used with any other discount/pass program.
Golden Bear Pass
For persons 62 years of age or older with income limitations specified on the application form; or receiving aid to the aged, blind, or disabled; or any person receiving Aid to Families with Dependant Children. Entitles the bearer and spouse to use of all parking facilities in state-operated parks.
Limited Use Golden Bear Pass
For persons 62 years of age or older. Proof of age based on California Driver License or other identification. Permits use of parking facilities in all state-operated parks. Not valid for use during the peak season, between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.

OHIO - Senior Citizen Discounts
Golden Buckeye Card Program"More than two million Ohioans are eligible for the Golden Buckeye card, honored at 20,000 businesses statewide. Golden Buckeye cardholders have saved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. All Ohioans age 60 or better, as well as adults age 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye Card."
How to Get a Card - Ohio residents who hold current Ohio Driver Licenses or State ID cards automatically receive a Golden Buckeye card in the month of their 60th birthday.
Where to Use the Card - Most participating merchants display the Golden Buckeye logo on their door, in their window or at the checkout.
Prescription Drug Savings - Cardholders without prescription drug coverage may also use the Golden Buckeye card to save at most Ohio pharmacies.
