Dating etiquette for seniors is really no different to any other age but dating again after many years in a relationship can be very daunting. What do you say? What do you wear?

It's very common place nowdays for single seniors who are left on their own through the death of a spouse or divorce to re enter the dating scene.

Grandparents in their late 60s and 70s are no longer content just to retire into the background but often experience a new lease of life enjoying travelling and joining in lots of social activities.

Just as in your 20s and 30s the same rules for dating apply. Be kind and courteous towards your date even if you don't feel that you are compatible.

No matter how boring your date may seem always be pleasant and polite towards them. You can always make an excuse to end the date early if it's not going very well.

Meet somewhere public on a first date. A casual date such as meeting for coffee gives you chance to get to know someone without the formalities of a dinner date.

A trip to the theatre or cinema may seem a nice idea for a date, but it doesn't give you much opportunity for talking and getting to know someone.

If your date suggests a meal together in a restaurant it's still customary for the guy to pay for a meal on the first date, but always offer to pay half.

Punctuality is basic good manners. If you are going to be late phone in advance to let them know even if it's only 10 minutes. Most people have a mobile phone today so there is no excuse.

Compliment your date on their hair or an item of jewellery or clothing, it will make them feel special.

Be careful not to discuss sensitive subjects such as politics or religion especially on a first date. Some people have very strong views on those subjects and airing your views on a first date could ruin a friendship before it has chance to develop.

Always thank your date for spending time with you even if you're only to happy for the date to end! It shows consideration for others.

If the date went well and you both enjoyed a pleasant evening you may want to request another meeting. Don't push it though if the other person doesn't seem interested.
