What Are Senior Day Care Centers?
Participants typically live in the home of a family member who serves as their primary caregiver. They may spend one or more days a week at a Day Care Center. Centers often offer pick-up and drop-off transportation services as a convenience to caregivers.
While there can be a good deal of variety in the programs and activities offered by individual centers, most provide a set of core services which can be modified to meet the needs and capabilities of individual participants.
Typical Services Offered:
- Arts and Crafts
- Exercise Classes
- Nutritional Meals and Snacks
- Games and Puzzles
- Group Dancing and Singing
- Beauty and Barber Shop Service
- Personal Care Assistance
- Medication Monitoring and Assistance
- Special Events and Group Outings into the Community
- Transportation to and from the Center
Who Can Attend?
Adult Day Care Centers offer similar services for all disabled adults, eighteen years of age and above.
Brighten Your Senior's Day
Caregivers Need A Break Too
Many Centers offer Beauty and Barber Shop services (including Pedicures) for participants. This can be a real benefit for the in-home caregiver, who otherwise would be responsible for providing these services.
Day services are a "win-win" proposition for family caregivers and their senior loved-ones as well!

Is There A Senior Day Care Center In Your Area?
I'm hoping to hear from anyone interested in senior caregiver issues, respite care, or day care services for the elderly. If you know of a center in your area, please tell me all about it (or post the the URL of their website). I might be able to feature your Center on this lens.

- I'm not quite ready to be a senior, but well on my way there - let's say I've climbed the hill and I'm rolling down the other side... I'm in South Florida too - it's so full of old people, especially in the condos where I live. I think the average age must be 65 at least. We are all going to need help one of these days though.
Great idea for a lens, you get 5 ***** from me.
