SEO: The On Page Optimization

A Perfect SEO Optimization On Page Is Possible?

The on page optimization is a SEO practice that is often underestimated, IMHO, at the expense of more "glamorous" off page strategies. But we often forget that links change but our web pages will always be the central pillar of any SEO strategy. Some graphs of SEOmoz will help us improve our pages for search engines and their crawler.

Desperately Seeking Keywords

First of all, how to choose the best keywords for my page?

Important!

Human, not robots

Do not write for search engines, write for your readers. The real ranking, at least, is the human appreciation!

Web Page Contents

on page seo best praticesContent pages are the the nitty-gritty of websites and are almost always the reasons why visitors visit a site. Ideal content pages should be very specific to a given topic (usually a product or an object) and be hyper-relevant.

The purpose of the given web page should be directly stated in all of the following areas:
on page seo optimization

  • Title tag

  • URL

  • Content of page

  • Image Alt Text

Good content supplies a demand

Just like world's markets, information is affected by supply and demand. The best content is that one which does the best job in order to supply the largest demand. It can be a video, an image, a sound, or text, but it has to supply a demand in order to be considered good content.

Some Things Change and Some Things Don't

the evolution in on page SEO factors

In the early 2000's, search engines seemed to have a fairly naive algorithm for content analysis, which led SEOs to adopt equally naive tactics for on-page optimization. Years later, these tendencies, sadly, still persist.

Obviously, it's essential to target effectively your keywords in your page titles, headlines (or early in the body copy), URLs, etc. But content analysis has become far more sophisticated. Engines start "reading" pages almost like in the way humans do by adding to good content=keywords matching other elements such as design, layout and usability.

Content is king, and copywriting is the primary skill for SEO. Writing for web is the main weapon to climb the SERP, but page' structure remains a central point. In particular for positioning.

Google says:

Content is king

Big G Is Watching You

Signals Google can measure from their many sources of information, and how this can potentially affect SEO.

how google reads your pages

To better understand how to improve our website in the eyes of Google, it is important to know how Big G collects its data. Because while navigating the web, someone is watching us ...

Repetita Juvant (but let's not exaggerate!)

Keyword density is almost a myth for SEO. As usual, it's just a question of balance.

keyword value chart

There is not a "perfect ratio". Check the title, the headline and make sure the phrase is on the page (and the page is actually on the subject of the keyword) and you've done your job. The additional impact on rankings to be gained from perfectly calculating the number of repetitions or ensuring every paragraph fits into the "theme" of the keyword and document is likely to be a waste of time better spent on other priorities. Of course, being sure to exceed 5% will not hurt, but do not waste too much time looking for perfect proportion. That's what this graph tries to illustrate.

Pigs Don't Fly

It is not the job of search engine optimization to make a pig fly. It is the job of the SEO to genetically reengineer the Web site so that it becomes an eagle. - Bruce Clay

One Is Better Than More?

Is it better to target two keyword terms/phrases on the same page or to build individual pages for each? This question seems to be a consistent struggle for SEOs

comparison with page using for keyword optimization

When targeting similar phrases or phrases that can work together and target the same intent for most users, a single page should suffice. When the phrases cannot logically work together in a title/headline or when the intents don't have a high likelihood for overlap, it's time to build different pages and target the keywords separately.

There Will Be a Future for On Page Optimization?

keyword optimizationThe HTML5 is focusing on code's semantics. This surely will change SEO strategies substantially. In what way? IMHO, the on page optimization will acquire a greater importance. HTML5 aims at a more semantic code which will allow visitors (and crawlers) to "read" the page in a more careful way.

Good advice. Google's getting pretty smart and is figuring out that a lot of the heavily SEO-ized pages are, basically, junk. I tend to write for real readers first and worry about SEO later. Does it work? Well, I've had my giggles with search results that actually landed people on my pages, but when I get search phrases that so-called SEO "experts" wouldn't think of, I'd say it is.

to write for real readers is EVER the best thing. optimization is important, but if your content are cheap you increase only the bouncing rate (tanks for stopping)
