SEO Copywriting: "See" Your Website As Search Engines Do

What I'm about to say about SEO copywriting may seem painfully obvious... but after doing tons of copy reviews for new clients I think this essential point needs to be driven home. This a nice quick tutorial with a few great tools to send to your clients to that want to write their own website copy.

Easy Tools to Analyze and Measure Your Keyword Density

See Your Website The Way Google Does

If you want to rank in the search engines for certain keyword phrases, those keyword phrases must be prominent on your website!

When I conduct SEO copywriting evaluations for clients, it isn't unusual to find that the terms company's want to rank for in the search engines do not appear on their page at all! There is a very good reason for this. Unless you're familiar and conscious of SEO copywriting practices when creating the content of your website, it is possible to never or rarely ever use your keywords in your website's content.

Instead of going into a bunch of boring details about SEO copywriting and search engine algorithms, I'm going to give you two tools from my SEO copywriting toolbox that will make it very easy to evaluate your SEO copywriting and write more effective search engine optimized content.

SEO Copywriting Tool #1:

WebConfs SEO Keyword Density Checker Keyword Cloud

This is the SEO copywriting tool to use if you already have a website and want to see what search engines "think" your site is about. Search engines assume that if a keyword is used frequently, then this is a good indication of the topic of the page. When you evaluate your SEO copywriting using this tool, you may find you haven't given the search engines enough information about your website's content.

Here are two keyword clouds from two companies that sell rental villas in Florida. One of these companies is ranking on page one of Google for the term "Orlando rental villas" and one is not ranking at all for this term. Can you guess which is which?

Keyword Density

Keyword Density

I'm sure you guessed correctly. Example #1 is the keyword cloud of the site ranking in the top spot of Google. Give this tool a try - you may be surprised to find what search engines think your site is about based solely on your word usage.

SEO Copywriting Tool #2:

Live Keyword Analysis

The keyword cloud tool is ideal to use once your site is already published. Live Keyword Analysis is the tool that I use to figure out the density of particular keywords before I publish the content to the web.

Here's a screenshot of how I used Live Keyword Analysis to analyze this page for the density of the term "SEO copywriting"before I every published it to my Squidoo lens.

Keyword Density

While there are many more elements of SEO copywriting, these two tools should give you a good start. Once you're aware of how to "see" your page as the search engines do, it becomes much easier to analyze your own website content and create content that will help get your website noticed for the keywords your visitors are searching for.
