SEO For Images

Ranked #12,553 in Internet, #452,930 overall

Images And Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engines take into consideration your whole entire content of each Web page and that is why the image files you present on your Web page should be related to the subject.

Use keywords to name your images and make sure that those keywords are relevant to your images.

Run your mouse over the below image.

What do you see?

Do you see the Keywords Search Engine Optimization?

That is because I added a title tag for my non seeing visitors as well as the spiders and bots to be able to read my keywords attached to my image.

Always Give Your Image a SEO Friendly Name

Use Descriptive Keywords that describe your image

SEO Up Your Image For Search

  • Always name your images wisely.

  • Try and place your keyword in the text near the image as this helps with Google image search.

  • Always use an ALT attribute in the image tag with your keyword in it

PLEASE NOTE: Too much keyword stuffing will be seen by the search engines as a bad thing and you may be penalized for it, so do not stuff with keywords!

Formatting Your Images For SEO

Spider My Images

Search Engine Optimization Your ImagesOne of the most important Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tips that I can give you is to deals with the way you name and tag your images on your site.

Google not only looks at the next on your site to measure your sites worth, however Google's spidering bots will also look at your coding that you use in all of your images.

Please keep in mind that Google has found ways to penalize you for "STUFFING" your alt tags with keywords, Google sees this as spamming their bots. So please do not stuff your keywords, however it is alright to put your keywords in your image tags which I highly recommend that you do this to all your images.

Please Remember to not stuff your Alt Tags packed with keywords, especially keywords that don't relate to the rest of your page. You can risk this being seen as spam.

Make sure that your keywords in your image ALT tags are legitimate to that image!

< img src="http://www.mysite.com/imagename.jpg"
alt="these are the keywords I'm targeting" width=100; height=100/ >

Let's take a look at the below image names.

Will My Image Name Rank?

Now which one of the images do you think will rank higher in search?

my-site.jpg
mysite.jpg
my_site.jpg

The Answer Is:
my-site.jpg will!!!

Now why is that?
Why would my-site.jpg be a better name for my image than mysite.jpg or my_site.jpg

The reason is because my-site.jpg has a more logical spelling than the other two image names. my-site.jpg is easier to read and understand for both people and the search bots which is going to help your image rank in search.

So it is very important that you remember when naming your images to always use a relevant name which is spelled correctly and is search friendly.

Adding Alt Attributes to your images

alt attributes in your image tagsOne of the simplest ways to make your Web Site more accessible is to use alt attributes in your image tags.

The alt attribute is an attribute of the img tag and is intended to be an alternative for non-visual browsers when they come across images. Meaning the text is meant to be used when the image is not visible on the page. Instead, what is displayed or read is the alternative text.

What are Titles & Meta Tags and why do I want them for SEO?

Titles & Meta TagsTitles & Meta Tags are distinctive "HTML Tags" that are placed into your sites Web page/pages and are often not visible to your human visitors.

The most important function of Title & Meta Tags is to help search engines be aware of, catalog and categorize your sites Web page/pages so visitors looking for your products or services can find you on the net.

There are loads of different forms of MetaTags that can be used for numerous diverse purposes.

Every single Web page on your site must have a Title and a Meta Description Tag.

Your Web Site page Title is comparable to a title of a book and the Meta Description is comparable to the preface or the back cover of a book. This is used to describe what that Web page is all about.

You want your Title and Meta Tags to be search engine friendly since the search engines display this information in their search results.
