(NEW!) Serah Farron FFXIII-2 Figure

Final Fantasy XIII-2 "Kai" Play Arts Action Figure

Take a sneak peek at the new Play Arts "Kai" action figure for Serah Farron, star of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Or browse the eBay listings below to get this figure before it's officially released in the U.S.!

Yes, Serah is back, having taken a level in badass from her big sister Lightning.

Serah wields a unique weapon, the Seraphic Wing, which transforms between a bow and a sword. She can use it to drain health from enemies for healing.

If you haven't run into Play Arts action figures before, they're high-quality Japanese collectibles, in this case copied directly from the in-game models of Final Fantasy XIII-2. The "Kai" figures for Dissidia, Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel are about 9" tall (meaning tons of detail), and they have over 21 points of articulation (joints, swivels, etc) so that they are extremely flexible.

Like most Play Arts figures, Serah comes with alternate open and closed hands for gripping her weapon, and two versions of her weapon in sword and bow configurations.

I'll be interested to see how Serah uses the Seraphic Wing in-game. Most real life archers (including me!) hold their bow with their non-dominant hand and draw with the dominant hand. But if Serah did that, she'd have to flip the Seraphic Wing from her right to left hand when she swaps weapons. [EDIT: I now have the game, and it looks like she draws her two hands together as the bow morphs to sword, so she winds up fighting two-handed. I think. Dang, that girl moves fast. And...er.. that bow is sentient and (Highlight to read spoiler) [[It's a Mog that transforms itself into a weapon. Weird. Then again, the Shiva Sisters are weird.]].

Naturally, Serah's bow is a composite with some stabilizers: tose spikes sticking out help with balance. No, I have no idea how bow stabilizers work; I use a medieval wooden bow like the default bow in FFXII.

Imported from Japan

Serah's Final Fantasy XIII-2 Play Arts figure will be released in the U.S. sometime in 2012, but she's not here yet -- officially. However, the imported figure is already available on eBay. (Watch out: Serah's alternate costumes -- downloadable content for the game -- are also available on eBay, and occasionally show up in these listings.)

To give you an idea what this figure will be like.

Here's a detailed look at the "Kai" Play Arts figure for Serah's big sister Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII. I'm sure Serah's figure will have the same level of detail, since she's taking over as the lead character in the sequel.

Lighting and Serah looks so cool. We are still playing Final fantasy 13 part 2. We love the story and the art as well. Awesome lens.

What is it with Japanese schoolgirl costumes? Well, here's younger Serah, looking demure and poised. I think her XIII-2 figure has a better face, but most of the others in the series (see below) look fantastic.
