Sermon Outline Help

Stand the bible upright, the pages facing up. Close your eyes and stick a finger on the bible pages. Open up the bible where your finger is. See what catches the eye, if there is nothing appealing then repeat. The bible is not lacking in material, you should find what you want in short order. Once you get the theme you can ask questions. What is the theme about? Who was involved? When did it happen? How did it happen? Where did it happen? And why did it happen? By then you should have enough material for a sermon.

A sermon outline is next in order. How many points would there be in the outline? The number of points should enable you to finish the sermon in about 30 minutes. If it is shorter then you might not get the opportunity to put the message across. If it is much longer then you might lose the the congregation. They might be thinking what to have for lunch.

Starting the sermon with an amusing story might be a good idea. Joel Osteen actually starts with a joke!. This relaxes the congregation and you can better put your message across. Your sermon should be lively and interesting and not a formal lecture - which would put the audience in slumberland. Actually most sermons falls into this category - your proverbial boring sermon.
It is better for your messages to have human interest, something people can relate with.

It depends on your locality and culture. Some places people expect sermons to go 15 minutes, while there are places that sermons go on for 45 minutes. So go with what the church indicates. And don't go overtime, that happens very often when the preacher just goes on and on.
