Where To Listen To Sermons Online

There was a time in my life where the only time I felt at peace was listening to sermons online. At first I couldn't figure out where I could find free sermons besides the podcast from my church. After all, non-profits tend to not be overly tech savvy, right? Wrong.

Sure, it took me a little while to find sermons online, some sites had terrible navigation, some required free memberships but the forms wouldn't load properly, and some didn't have preaching online at all! But it was amazing- just like the 5 loaves and two fishes, once I found one or two good preaching downloads, I began to see them everywhere I looked!

I'm going to start this lens with the four preachers that I listen to online the most, but as I find more that I love, I'll add more. And if you have a favorite preacher with sermons online? Please drop a note in the comment section.

The Worship Center

Naturally, I'm leading the list of sermons online with my church. Actually, The Worship Center has had streaming sermons since streaming audio was considered cool. They then moved on to podcasts, and are now currently up with the MP3. I don't know who's responsible for keeping them up with the times, but I am forever grateful.

Our Senior Pastor is Sam Smucker, and while there are occasionally guest speakers/pastors or other associate pastors preaching, it's mostly Pastor Sam and Don Neff. We're in the middle of a series on the words of Jesus called "The Red Letters", and all of the previous sermons are currently available on the website and can be played or downloaded for free.

Freedom Valley Worship Center

Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos of the Freedom Valley Worship Center in Gettysburg, PA absolutely cracks me up. He opens every sermon online with a bunch of super cheesy jokes (I have to say online because the TV edit doesn't include the jokes), and I love me some cheesy jokes.

But when the man preaches, he preaches! Not the sort of hyper-active shouting that you often see with TV preachers; Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos is down to earth and just gets the concepts across.

Right now, Freedom Valley Worship Center is doing a series called A Step On My Journey. They also have over a year's worth of sermons online for free, which is absolutely great when you're hungry for God's word.

On top of that, Pastor Gerry is getting pretty internet savvy. He has his own blog, and a Twitter account.

Beth Moore- Living Proof Ministries

When I was so desperate for good teaching, my mother recommended that I listen to Beth Moore. Honestly, I don't think that I'd ever heard of her before except from my mother, and I was a little wary. But I listened, and I'm so glad that I did! Not only is she a great teacher (Bible studies), but she made me laugh so hard that I nearly cried.

Aside from making me laugh, one of my absolute favorite things about her teaching is that she'll trace specific words back to their origins, just to get a clearer picture of what scripture is saying. I'm something of a geek for that, so the longer she spends explaining the origin and cultural meaning of certain words, the happier I am!

She has up to 4 sermons online for free, but charges $2-4 for downloading them.

Steve Brown

I love Steve Brown from Steve Brown Etc and Key Life. I'll eventually get around to adding some of that info here, but for now, feel free to visit a lens I built just for his online presence.

Joyce Meyer Ministries

Joyce Meyer has been one of my favorite preachers for years. In fact, she was the ONLY preacher that I would listen to aside from my own pastor until recently. I know non-Christians who will actually listen to her because of her straight shooting style. They say she has "common sense". Well, yes, but I call it spiritual wisdom.

She has about 3 months worth of sermons online to watch for free, but only the five most recent sermons are available for download. They're free, but you have to use iTunes to download them. If you've never heard of Joyce Meyer before, check her out!

New YouTube vids

The only videos that I can find from my church (Worship Center) are from this past year's Christmas Eve service, and the audio isn't synced quite right with the visual. The Beth Moore and Joyce Meyer videos seem to work just fine!

Financial Preaching?

Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace: Cash Flow Planning

Amazon Price: $4.00 (as of 02/15/2012)Buy Now

What does financial planning have to do with preaching? Well, everything! We're called to be good stewards and to be generous. If your finances aren't in order, how can you give generously? Of course, there's giving of your time, and your talents/skills, but if your finances aren't in order, chances are that everything else won't be either.

And Dave Ramsey is an unapologetic Christian. I love me some Suze Orman, but Dave Ramsey is honestly my favorite. I'd love to see him get a show on a Christian channel simply because you can see him start to give advice based strictly on Biblical principles (I swear I caught him almost about to explain tithing to a caller), and then restrain himself because he's on the Fox network.
