Session 9 - Creepy, Atmospheric, and Well-worth the look
Ranked #10,811 in Movies & TV, #459,243 overall
Session 9 is probably one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. It's not a slasher film, but there's a lot of death. It's not an easy film to understand on the first sitting, but it grabs hold of your attention and keeps you intrigued until the very end.
Rather than being simply a haunted house story or a mystery, Session 9 is both and neither. The haunting is the past. An asbestos removal crew is called to an abandoned sanitorium. It should be a straightforward job, but tensions are high in the crew. Soon, one of them has gone missing. There are arguments and plot twists until the final moment. There are no cheap outs in this movie- No characters who suddenly appear, no cheap special effects. Just a strong narrative and brilliant acting.

Reviews of Session 9
- Haro-Online Review
- "In a way, both spring from The Blair Witch Project, Session 9 even more so than the other film due to similarities in theme, narrative structure, and even some plot points. Session 9 takes place on the property of an old hospital. A work crew agrees to clean the dilapidated grounds in one week for a large sum of money. The first noticeable element is the digital film."
- Meta Critic Review
- Gathers many critics' comments into one place.
- Culture Vulture Review
- " For its first half, Brad Anderson's Session 9 is a canny horror film that keeps finding pleasurable ways to catch us off guard and yell "Boo!" It works partly because it's content to play within the strict rules of the haunted house genre: all five members of the team are at once perfect suspects and potential victims, made vulnerable by their own dark drives. Everyone here has his reasons, and all these reasons are suspect at best. Gordon (Peter Mullan) is a reluctant new father under enormous financial and emotional strain. Phil (David Caruso) might just be dealing drugs on the side. He hates Hank (Josh Lucas), the shiftless thief who's stolen his girlfriend. Gordon's young nephew Jeff (Brendan Sexton III) suffers from a paralyzing fear of the dark. And Mike (Stephen Gevedon) is the son of the Attorney General who shut Danvers down. His curiosity about the case compels him to sneak off each day and listen to audio tapes he's found from therapy sessions with a profoundly disturbed girl."
